Dalton vindicated by Craig
by Aaron S on Dec 01, 2006 11:58 PM

I think the new film vidicates what Dalton was trying to do in fleshing out the spy. Dalton's acting scenes are ripe for reappreciation. The Dalton gadget scenes now look out of place. Dalton's Bond is unfortunately caught between two alternate universes, the Moore-iverse and the Craig-iverse.

A minor quibble: Caped Crusader is a nickname for Batman, not Superman. Go with Man of Steel, Metropolis Marvel, or Last Son of Krypton.

Did u feel bad abt what i said?
by jp on Nov 22, 2006 08:05 PM

come on Mr sen, u wrote an entire article on facts everyone knows. like i said before, timothy dalton was good, the living daylights was also good. But fans prefer pierce brosnan. he was the present gen Bond. dalton had many things against him. 1) Roger Moore starred in atleast 7 movies as Bond( the most Bond) and ppl got used to him. He was lighthearted and was actin as a Bond even at age 59( a view to kill). Dalton shudnt have quit as Bond, he shud have starred in more. Did u know Dalton was offered Bond after Sean Connery quit after Diamonds are forver ?
he refused it saying he was too young to play a Bond immortalised by Sean Connery.
and yea...the best script and story ever is On her majestys secret service. Too bad George Lazenby spoilt it

Connery's best, but Dalton was equally good.
by Samrat Raychaudhuri on Nov 22, 2006 10:58 AM

I couldn't agree more with you as i too felt Dalton was and is still given a raw deal. His renditions of Bond were more realistic the The Rog movies which became like parodies (much like the 'Scary Movie' franchise). In my opinion Dalton ranks alongside (not an equal though)Connery.Hope Craig does equally well in the next two.

I second that ...

James Bond doesn't really stand for the charming guy with a box full of tricks and gadgets saving the world single-handedly

He's a spy and must have an enigmatic appeal besides being a ruthless contender. Timothy Dalton definitely had both of the later qualities as shown in "The Living Daylights"

I am sure a lot of disinterest that emerged in Bond fans, happened during the Roger Moore era, who seemed more of a Casanova than a spy!

Dalton ''the bond''
by Albert.J on Nov 22, 2006 10:28 AM

I do agree u with Mr.Sen here. Having read a couple of bond novels, I felt Dalton was the most flawless and perfectly made bond, and the living daylights was the most enjoyable of all bond films.Dalton had that animalistic leers and ferocious looks which made him the bond, but the connery & moore fans, may be cud`nt digest such an avatar..also the period he did those two movies weren`t perfect for bond movies..i dont know!!..But Im sure that of all the actors who played bond only Dalton looked & behaved the way flemings bond wudve.

Valid points, but only the world can decide!
by Jo on Nov 22, 2006 10:17 AM

There are a lot of valid points in your article, but surely only the world can decide? Let's face it, before Craig's movie was released the public and the media alike were highly skeptical of his abilities. Now, apparently, we love him. Will this always be the case? See http://chartnation.com/007 - before the Craig movie was released, he was bottom of their chart. Now he's heading upwards... Oh, we are fickle.

:-) So I started this

Hey Raja,

You really got way too defensive on this one. You actually wasted a full column in Dalton's defense. That's the best anyone has ever done for him, I'm sure.

Anyways, I promise to give Licence to Kill one more try(sigh)...my next order on Netflix.

Bond

Pierce brosnan has been criticised to a great extent in here....he is the second best i would say (havent seen craig in action though)......dalton was good compared to lazenby and can stand together with moore.......but the way brosnan is written off by the author is unthinkable....
