very good interview
by shankar on Nov 17, 2006 08:29 PM

the interview with kamal was very good. i feel what he said is right. he has made compromises in films like perumazhakaalam, gramaphone etc and those compromises has completely spoilt the films. i saw perumazhakaalam and the first thing i felt was that the movie had to be wrapped within 2 hours. because, the theme was world class and he shouldn't have given time for the audience to drift from the story. All the songs (though good) were completely mood spoilers. As with gramaphone, the climax was totally made up. Even then, the director is one whom the audience can trust completely. his films dont disappoint.

perumazhakkalam had good songs
by ramesh on Nov 16, 2006 05:20 PM

perumazhakkalm had some wonderful songs. good lyrics and music and the songs like 'rakkili' and 'kallayi' will be remembered much longer than the film itself. director had to decide much earlier the validity of songs. unfortunately kaithapram and jayachandran missed definitely some awards by removing the songs while screening before the award committee.
yet kamal is my favourite and an excellent director. there were some films like 'ulladakkam' which were not mentioned.

Hats Off Kamalji

I respect Kamlji for the intellectuality he exhibits with all his films.
But I have one comment on your "compromises". I believe such compromises needs to be done for Indian society bcos the average indian still watches a movie for entertainment and we cant blame ourselves. Its for that pleasure we go for a movie. We never go for movie to see its exhibition of art or something of that sort. I explain this keeping the common man of India who still comprise the lot. So brilliant directors like u continue exhibiting u'r brilliance & inbetween make suitable "compromises" to convey u'r strong views through a normal person's cinema.. ie entertainment in which u can convey a message. one good example of that class is Lage raho Munnabhai.

Kamal movies are a real special ones ... sad part is that its been made only on malayalam language ... it should have been re made on hindi too ... as most of his movies are just mind blowing with the amazing direction, story and script.

Just watch his movies like Meghamalhar, Unnikale oru katha parayam, kakkothi kavile appooppan thadiakl, perumazhakalam etc.

But the best part is he is also a veru good commercial director.

Hats off to KAMAL

Kudos

I am neither a mallu nor a great follower of Malayalam Cinema. But felt good to know about a person who is not a hypocrat and comes out to say he did compromise on his movies. He is a successful director as we understand from the article.

Kudos to hus humbleness !!!
