I read the book "The NameSake" last year, just after I arrived to the US for the first time, leaving behind by family, culture and friends. I wouldnt say the book moved me, because that would be an underestimation. Its when u start seeing yourself in the book, that you realize its a genius. And the Namesake did that for me.Its a story of lives, some of our lives, beautifully told. I cannot wait for the release of the movie.
are u trying to say that the indians in new york have better taste than in london? the fact that bombay dreams bombed in NY had nothing to do with Indians in NY...you lose a lot of credibility as a reviewer right there. Bombay dreams is a mediocre show with great music, but a poor plot, that was extremely genericized and reduced to a by the numbers story when it came to America, so that it would appeal to American audiences. The fact that broadway enthusiasts have seen it all done much better before was the reason it bombed. The reason it did so well in London was partly because of a better understanding of Indian culture there and lots more Indians who went to see it. Reviews of the show have been uniformly bad everywhere. That being said, I am looking forward to namesake and will check it out when it opens.
