Undoubtedly, it was Karunya who was leading till the last minute and has very strong and appeling voice. How come Sandeep was selected all of sudden. No doubt Sandeep has got very good voice and very important very good smile. But let me tell you Three reasons for choosing Sandeep over Karunya.
1) Udit Naryan was the leading playback singer and only competetor for Sonu Nigam. Sonu always wanted to cross Udit but could not succeed so selecting Udit's relica will help him to some extent to attack on Udit's popularity. 2) Karunya's voice was a threat to Sonu Nigam as Karunya's voice was too good. 3) Karunya belongs to south, and during the voting it was only North who would be watching the show in South except Metro and big city's nobody will be watching Karunya's programe since they stick to Regional channels more. 4) Recently Anu Malik and Udit Narayan had a coldwar over some issue. And Anu Malik wanted to replace Udit in some way or other way.
Because of the above four reasons Sandeep is there where he is today. But Karunya is defenately better over Sandeep. Sandeep overtaken Karunya in one episode and that was the last episode of Indian Idol.
