Review on Pudhupet
by Victor on Jun 06, 2006 09:39 PM

Hello Sudha,

I am just wonder about your review. Here are the details for that.

1) A movie should be rated as "One of the worst" - Whenever nothing is good in that movie and no worth to watch. But you accepted the Technical work is great. Then which base u rate as "1"

2) It is a gangster movie. You cant expect a soft and decent luv scenes from this movie..You come and see the slum area of Chennai..

So i guess, you are new to Review and not eligible for a reviewer post. Go and See movies and review..

Impressive

I was very impressed with the movie..I would say its one the most realistic portrayal of a local gangster I've ever seen in an indian movie. The characterisation of Dhanush as a local rowdy is as realistic and vivid as it can get.Unlike the other indian ganster movies in which they'd glorify the gangster(the hero of the movie) and make him a bad with a good heart just because he is the hero! But this is not the case in reality...which is what impressed me the most in puthuppet...a gangster's greed, want for power, his lust, his temper which takes control of him were all beautifully contrived.Unlike the usual movies wherein the gangster hero would die(maybe to show "dharmame vellum!"),here the director almost makes a mock of the situation that persists in reality. Its really nice that such a realistic gangster movie has come in TAMIL and hats off to Selvaraghavan for that...
Unfortunately, our people are used to watching and appreciating cliched gangster movies in which the hero would be all-powerful,intelligent,rough and yet soft guy, with a generous heart full of love for the people around him, with stunts right from the beginning to the end, with the right amount of violence. What peopl

The critic has identified unusual instances to justify his/her "one of th worst movies" rating. You don't seem to provide adequate explanation for the movie's failure to reach your 'expectations'.
The movie for the independent--'not so exposed to Hollywood movies'--viewer, would appeal. For me the movie isn't all that bad, I wasn't irritated at a lot of scenes (a feature that is so absent in most movies today). The movie has its share of cliches and exaggerations. The overall plot does go haywire but it didn't lose me to say the least.
I didn't like the movie so much because of the elements that have been copied from all kinds of movies. The ruthless attitude in finishing up his own 'relatives' is from Godfather, Scarface and plethora of Mafia movies. The graphic nature of violence (which I'm fine with) is lifted from Kill Bill et al. And the climax scene which you've criticised is actully not bad at all (but very similar to 'a clockwork's orange's), and a lot sequences remind us of Aayudha eluthu, En uyir tholan, Sathya etc. And Yuvi's score is so out of sync in many places (so much for symphony), I think he sucked. I would probably give 2.2.
Poor review

Excellent movie
by tpeekay on Jun 01, 2006 09:29 AM

Pudupettai is an excellent movie with mindblowing performances from every one..there are lot of pluses in technical side too.. camera work, music, dialogue, screenplay... the only minus point is the climax fight.. on the whole the film is worth a watch.. it is realistic film... when i watched the movie i felt like im living with a gangster... no other film in the tamil film made on underworld is as real as pudupettai... mind u dhanush is not a hero in the film he is gangster...

Not worth a penny
by Dhanush on May 31, 2006 07:49 PM

Hopeless movie. The whole movie was dragging and had no elements in it. Personally there nothing I liked in the movie except for Sneha and Sonia\\\'s acting. Music is okay not the usual from Yuvan.

I was really surprised when a magazine down south rated Selvaraghavan as the best director ahead of Ameer, Bala, Cheran, Mani, etc... Sure this movie has brought out the real class of SR. Aint it?
