Murder of Democracy.
by Prateet on May 25, 2006 01:25 PM

Democracy says that citizens have freedom to raise their voice if they find something inapt. Fanna is banned in Gujrat - reason - Aamir Khan raised his voice during the Narmada Dam issue against BJP. Is'nt Aamir a citizen of India? Or just because he is a celebrity he does'nt have the freedom of speech?
I have always detested Narendra Modi and his atrocious policies. World recognises India as the biggest democratic setup, which I am proud of, but suddenly I have realised that its failing. Its more of despotism in a democratic setup. Leaders are becoming dictators rather than representatives elected by us and for us.
I am not residing in Gujrat, but tomorrow it may happen at my place, if a prominent personality goes against the government. Who is Narendra Modi or for that matter BJP to ban the movie? Who gave them the rights to ban a movie because of personal animosity?
I have the feeling that its the murder of democracy, when a common man like me does'nt have the right to watch a movie. Its enough cos I think my comments will not be shown in Gujrat by Mr. Narendra Modi. With the leaders like Narendra Modi, Arjun Singh, Laloo, etc - list is endless, India will be a failed setup soon

I think what Aamir says is right. Of course it will need
a lot of space to build a dam, but I say Aamir is right.
And the people cannot stop the screening of Fanaa in Gujrat just because they hate Aamir and Aamir is acting in Fanaa. I think Fanaa should be screened in Gujrat.

ban on amir khan movie
by neelam on May 25, 2006 11:10 AM  | Hide replies

Is India a democratic country? if yes then why r we not allowed to express our views on any issues.Who are these so called netas to deprive us from our Right To Express. If they have got a problem with Amir Khan they should not watch the movie instead of forcing the entire nation into their personal conflict. There are far more serious issues to be handled by the govt. These netas should concentrate on that.pls leave the job of banning a movie to censor board.

Dear oh Dear, You are very good at justifying violence for your so called good cause. Let me tell you nothing very horrible is going on out here. It is pretty simple. Amirkhan have his freedom to express his support for NBA activists. And we gujarati have freedom to express our anger, there is no politician involved here, And don't just consider us, the gujaratis fools, No one can drive us crazy by playing with our sentiments, it is we the people of gujarat who has decided that we won't see the movice fana. We are a group of say 100 odd gujarati friends, back here in pune... Even then we have not seen the movie, I my self have been a die hard fan of aamir, have attempted twice for civil services , just by getting inspired by his SARFAROSH. But it doesn't mean that we will take all his comments for granted. So don't try to impose your thinking on us the gujaratis, and please don't try to act more civilized than us..... And if at all Narendrabhai is taking hard stand , It is because he is wel versed with the water problem here and he is just trying to solve another problem for gujarat as he had for other problems associated with education and industry...

By the way, India can never shine

Hi, Me, being in UK now for quite a few years, its very embarrasing to see how people behave for the politicians.

In UK, nobody fights on the streets for politicians,
Nobody harrasses public for the sake of politicians,
No sabotages, for the sake of politics,

when someone/anyone raises the voice for some good cause, every single citizen supports them.
when a bloody politician makes an absurd decision or passes a comment on something, everybody just thrash him with criticism.
The only reason they pick on a fight is, when their football team loses to some other team, and so on...

But, u know... Who are these party workers, who want a movie to be banned for nearly 6Million people?

Who are these politicians, making a big fuss about someone supporting a good cause?

There are plus and minus in every decisions.
But, who the hell are they, trying to cause damages to cinema halls, and cause loss to business people?

Whoever wants to hurt the public with such atrocities, let them cut just their finger, and see how much it hurts for 1 week, and what they lose, and how much they can suffer. And they want to cause deaths, and injuries to innocent people.
Shame on Dr.Singh

No Fanaa in Gujarat multiplexes.

Welcome to the Gujarat state of Taliban. If you speak against the government you'll be banned to enter the state. So basically gujarat government is making fun of India's democratic status. Well no wonder why US government banned Modi to enter USA. Keep up the good work Modi. Now the democracy is in the hand of bumch of Jokers sitting in the state assembly of Gujarat.

Dear friend,
You have crossed all the limits by calling Gujarat a state of taliban. I strongly protest against use of these words. I don't know where this person "Kripa" belongs to. I will like to make him/her (as i don't know the gender), gujarat is one of the safest most state in india. And this is the place where people can express their views very freely. If that would not have been the case many of the local news papers would have been closed down. As far as aamir khan is considered, We gujaratis are not fools, so that even after him being anti Sardar sarovar will spend our money on his movie. I would have appreciated if he would have spoken abour ethnic cleansing of hindus from Kashmir rather than some incident in Vadodara. This shows that, pain is somewhere else in the body and he is talking about the other part of the body. And we don't need anyone else to endorse our views, We know what is good for us, and that is what we are doing. It has been long since people have played with dignity of gujarat, now we won't bare any more. Every one who playes with our sentiment will have to regret for that.

Hi,
I read your view and would suggest you either grow up shut your mouth up.
Banning of film is incorrect but talking against govenment is absurd. Before talking about modi do visit gujrat and than speak.

Hitting Aamir below the belt
by anuradha moitra on May 25, 2006 01:07 AM

Our political leaders have only 2 things in their agenda.First to protect their seat no matter how and second to make issues out of no-issues. Tell me, how many politicians have stopped drinking Coca Cola or wearing Titan watches because Aamir Khan endorses them?

by vk on May 31, 2006 01:07 AM
I don't think Aamir is doing this for personal purposes.Hatred leads to nothing. No one is going to benefit with hateredness.Gujarat needs Narmada dam and at the same time Gujarat Govt should provide to rehabiltation who are getting affected by this.If there are only few hundred people why not Gujarat Govt provide help to the affected people. They could have also asked film people to provide funds instead of protesting againist the film !!.

Dear friends,
I really pity on your knowledge regarding the whole subject. First of all Gujarat Goverment is through with all the rehabilitation work in Gujarat, It is the issue with affected people in Madhya Pradesh. Tell me one thing... How can gujarati's protest against amirkhan, who is having excellent media support... which is lacking in case of gujaratis. So in protest they don't want him or his movies take some money out of their pockets. So what is wrong in it? And if you are considering us, the gujaratis fools, so that one or the other political party can play with our emotions and drive us crazy then it is a sheer mistake on your part. So this protest is not by some or the other political party, It is by Gujarati people. And you guys have certainly missed out in identifying real intent of these NBA supporters. May be there is something else suspecius, because that supporters have talked a lot about vadodara violence also... So what they want to do... Support NBA.... No .. They somehow want to defame, Gujarat and gujarat government. If someone is smart enough he can easily understand this all. So stay out of this...
