In the pssing away of Naushad a glorious musical era has come to an end. Though he was currently known as a musician of yesteryears, those yesteryear songs were evergreen. One still hums 'Pyar kiya to darna kya' and remembers him for all his glorious lilting songs

The demise of Naushad
by manmohan on May 06, 2006 02:29 AM

the masestro Naushad was a virtuoso of Indian music and regaled the lovers of Indian music with innumerable compositions which still are as relevant as they were in the era they were created.Baiju Bawara was the epitome of musical creativity & Indianness when the late mohammed Rafi saheb rendered the bhajan composed by Shakeel Badayuni saheb and composed by none other than the late Naushad sahab. He and the late S.D. Burman were a class apart with Shankar Jaikishan following neck to neck. The film industry may set up an academy to honour the genius of what we know as the Naushad saheb. He may have left a treasure trove of his unpublished musical compositions which should be published over a period of time.remember Veer Zara and the genius of madan Mohan encashed by Yash chopra. The music of naushad is and will be a binding force for all the true lovers of Indianmusic.

Naushad Saab
by Dr. B. Singh on May 05, 2006 09:37 PM

Naushad Saab, the music magician of Golden Era of hindi cinema is no more among the admirors of soul- and meaningful music. His style of conveying the messages and emotions through music as well as words was highly appreciable. This departure is an irreparable loss to the Indian cinema and his followers. As A tribute to him, I repeat just his words (said by him while remembering Shakeel Badayun Saab):

O Jane vaale dil mein teri yaad rah gayee,
Are, nagmen juda ho gaye, fariyad rah gayee...

Bhagwan Aap ki Atma ko shanti de!

B. Singh
Hamir Pur, H. P.
(One of Naushad Saab's Admirors)

Did you know?
by Shyamanuja Das on May 05, 2006 09:37 PM

Did you know that
1. Naushad was the first Indian to conduct London Philharmonic Orchestra?
2.He gave the name TunTun to TunTun whose original name was Uma Devi?
3.Naushads voice asking Rafi to stop singing when blood came out of his mouth is still there towards the end of the song O Duniya Ke Rakhwale?
4.Naushads family had to tell his would-be in-laws that he was working as a tailor, a musicians job, that too in films, was so lowly. Interestingly, the band in his baraat was playing his own tunes from Rattan.
5.He kept the microphone in a toilet while recording some songs in Rattan to create the echo effect?
6.Naushad gave the idea of Baiju Bawra to Vijay Bhatt of Prakash Picture to revive the latter's production house which was making huge losses?
7.He was the only composer for whom both Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Pandit D V Paluskar sang?
8. He has written a book of Urdu poetry Athwan Swar?
9. He recorded Pyar Kiya to darna kya in Latas voice four times and then transferred to the voice track to match the sheesh mahal effect?
10.Suraiya once remarkedNoor Jehan was born great;Lata achieved greatness; it was Naushad Saaheheb who thrust greatness upon me?
