joaquin phoenix

Joaquin's performance as John R. Cash was Oscar worthy. Not only did he sing beautifully, he portrayed an addict with intensity and believability. He executed the characters difficult falls, emotional highs and lows, as well as, wonderfully adapting to the artistic demands of his character. Gentleness and sensitivity appeared when needed. Joaquin has so much talent he is bound for Oscardom!

Cowardice- Ain't no way!
by Sarang on Mar 08, 2006 09:51 AM

What cowardice??? A movie does not get an Oscar ONLY for its depiction of a 'controversial' topic. Watch Crash and tell me which one is handled intelligently and portrays reality better.
Stop imagining things if your favourite did not get an Oscar. Did you lose a bet or what???

What is so great about Brokeback Mountain? Homosexuality was just an 'element' int he movie. The actual story was about two stupid people in love not having the caurage to stand up or accept reality. Always wanting to live in their dream world. Also, one just wants to be the 'Master' in the relationship and the other a 'bonded' affliction. That is NOT love.

PS. Them guys were Bi-sexual.

Jon Stewart rocks!
by cynical romantic on Mar 08, 2006 07:50 AM

Absolutely loved the fact that Crash sticked it to Brokeback! The last unpredictability was the second best thing about the show (next to Jon Stewart)
Had mixed feelings about George Clooney's win. He was pretty good in Syriana and his speech was absolutely charming....but I was strongly rooting for Matt Dillon.
Jon Stewart was amazing - his dry sense of humour and snide remarks really worked well.

Oscars-2006
by Manisha Asthana on Mar 08, 2006 04:04 AM

The 78th Academy Awards contained an element of surprise in the form of the award for Best Actress in a leading role.I didn't expect Reese witherspoon to walk away with it as the role of "June Carter"can't be termed phenomenal. On the contrary Felicity Haufman deserved it better for playing a transexual person in the movie"Transamerica".I hold the same viewpoint as far as Brokeback Mountain Vs Crash competition is concerned in the best film category. There might be people who may not agree with my views but these Oscars sure were a Big Surprise.

Crash
by Meghana on Mar 08, 2006 03:27 AM

Crash is a brilliant film that really deserved to win. As George Clooney said..it is hard to compare each of these films since they are all brilliant in their own right. Living in Los Angeles may be why Crash seemed the best to me and may be that is why members of the academy liked it as well. But that does not take anything away from the film. It is well made and the character development is excellent. Worth a watch! I'm definitely happy with the oscars.

Yes, very happy

I watch the oscars every year - and this year I especially watched because Jon Stewart was going to be the host. I think he did an amazing job. If you know Jon Stewart then you know he is very SMART and very Funny. He did not play it safe - as some would say, what he did was intelligent, funny, and goes with everything he said before the Oscars. He made it very clear during his interviews that this was their 'party' the nominees and he did not want to do anything to take away from that. Conservatives expected him to be irreverant, to take major digs at the administration, and he did not play into their idea of what kind of host he was going to be. Jon Stewart was amazing, and my moment of zen was when he said - Oscar count, 3 6 Mafia - 1, Martin Scorecese - 0. Priceless.
The awards. Reese got her first oscar. So did Clooney. Brokeback got its due. And Crash took home the big prize - most deserving, because Crash truly tackled an issue that every AMERICAN can relate to and understand.
Awards can't make us all happy. As Clooney said, you can't say who is better than who unless everyone did the same role, so really lets just celebrate creativity and inspire others to dream.

happy with the oscars?
by Ankur on Mar 07, 2006 11:05 PM

Well I will have to say I'm alright with the oscars. I dont think there was any need for brokeback to lose but yet again there comes a point to me that the kind of issues that have been tackled in Crash had something to do with it winning the oscar, anyway brokeback though was a very sensitive movie with a similar subject but I do not think that directorial brilliance and a heartfelt subject can win over social impact and practical relevance.I thought Don Cheadle was robbed of a nomination for Crash and Felicity Huffman was robbed of an oscar I thought she was far more deserving than Reese who did not do a particularly good job.

Happy with Oscars
by Tafosi on Mar 07, 2006 09:46 PM

I am extremely happy with the choices, especially the Best Picture since "Crash" was the best movie which I saw in 2005. The only person whom I felt was robbed is Amy Adams, who was the life and soul of "Junebug". Other than that, a job well done.

It was OK

The effort was really good. The details were pretty minute, But I think, with the kind of viewership its time for rediff to start some videos or flash sections...
