we need stars too
by himanshu on Jun 03, 2006 06:16 PM

Hi all,
I agree that actors should be needed, but i dont believe that stars and actors r different. Both r same and just two sides of a coin. In the movie set, he/she is an actor while after that he/she is a star.Star is someone who has a tremendous fan-following. people love to see them, great charishma like AB, Aamir, Sharukh and salman khan.I think these r the only stars rite now in indian film industry and there is no doubt about their acting skills. they give more than 100% to the movie. We need people like them to suceed for the next gen.Other people r just media made and publicity. Stars are very imp to pull the film to do a very goodbusiness.

Rather die than not to act!!
by jibran on Jun 03, 2006 08:47 AM

No wonder he is the best actor ever produced in the subcontinent. Any art takes conditioning to get better at it, whether it is writing, singing, painting and as Naseer Sir has just explained acting. It's a pity that Indian film industry don't have any use of such a great actor.

Prof Gurbir S Khera
Right Actor for the Right Role
by Prof Gurbir S Khera on Jun 02, 2006 01:17 AM

May Subhash Desai's-'Whistling Woods'become the benchmark for others to Follow & Ape...even globally.Given the enormous talent in India... looking for the right institute is always a Challenge & a Gamble. It ,definitely, will fill in the creative void & would give direction to the creative genius of the Youth. Now,the great names, like, Naseer's endorsement&commitment, his experience & daring views would add seriousness & credibility to this state-of-the-art film school.
May this new-found passion of Shri Subhash Ghai ignite the creative impulse & it is sure to create ripples in the field of film-school history & we get to see fine-tuned actors & technicians-also great Movies.

Naseer on Whistling Woods and more

It is very heartening to know that Naseer will be teaching. I am a big fan of his. He is one of the best actors that our country has got. But I have two questions: Film is and undoubtedly will be Director's medium. Actors will be the vehicles to carry forward the thoughts of the Director, which means ultimately the process of an actor's emoting will be and should be controlled by the Director. An actor should deliver what the director wants. And since every director has a different style and you have directors who want to be very versatile, as in who want every movie to be different from the previous one.It means every film of the same director also can be different. The acting style of actors in Lagaan and Swades is different. Even in Dil Chahta Hain and Lakshya, acting styles are different. So, then how can one 'teach' the actors or as Mr. Shah has put it, how actors are going to 'learn'? The answer to this is 'on the job', i.e. by working with the directors. Then my second question is: so, what's the need to 'teach' acting? Let them learn on job. As acting cannot be taught, only learnt then what to teach it in a film institute? Isn't that redundant?
