Omkara was a revelation. A feast for the eyes, ears and the cinematic sensibilities. Its a must watch for all film-lovers. The photography is mesmerizing, the setting believably rustic, the characters etched so sharply - you get drawn deeply into their web, the direction so powerful and the editing so taut, that you get swept away by the force of the narrative, the music apt and the dialogues so sharp, they cut open the emotions raw.
Whether it be Shakespeare or else, I have rarely seen such a powerfully etched film in the recent past. You rarely see the actors so completely fused with the story. With some exceptions like Vivek Oberoi and surprisingly Naseer to some extent, no one seems out of place. Even Bipasha is ravishingly earthy. The masterpiece performance is from Saif Ali Khan. (People had doubts, but I had none after watching his performance in Ek Hasina Thi) All credit to the director - he has carved out a piece of art from the granite of the Hindi film industry. A must watch and a worthy entry into any international film festival. Vishal Bhradwaj deserves a round of appluase...
time period between killing the kareena and knowing the proof from saif was very low.perhaps it shows the intensity of love. bcz she could not care the chain which was the symbol of love .omkara kept it from long time which kareena could not care for it even she was not knowing where it is.the story , the characters, acting , dialogues everything was very nice.it is a mesaage for new generation to understand love
I have seen Omkara as well as the malayalam version 'Kaliyattam'. Omkara is a very well-made movie.....but my personal opinion(not as a mallu, even tho i am one), is that the malyalam movie was a touch better....bcos of the originality in setting the story in a different way. And even tho not enuf praise can be showered on SAif for his IAgao, the mallu actor Lal's IAgo was better. I completely hated him.

You made a good point here. I really hated Mr.Lal's Iago. And, the Iago (Langda)- done by Mr.Saif, even though he has done an excellent performance, I'm not able to hate him that much!
Really a masterpiece! And power packed performances! But if foul language had been limited it would have been less embarassing for the ladies and family crowds!
This msg is as funny as it is ignorant. I haven't seen either the Hindi version or the Malayalam version of Othello, but the dig at South Indian actors is unwarranted. Think of Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Vaijayanthi Mala, Kamala Hasan, even if you don't know Aishwarya Rai.
I want to thank vishal sir to bring the old UP folk taste to the music of his new movie Omkara. I love all the songs but my favorite song is "Beedi". The music of omkara rocks!!!!!!!!!!!
I was eagerly waiting for OMKARA.I bought the tickets in advance. N it was paisa wasool. A good story with DEADLY characteres. But the man who really bought in the audience was SAIF ALI KHAN. I never thought this actor who usally known for his ROMANTIC COMIDIES can play negative or WICKED role on screen. He was to kool n his name too as LANGDA BHAIYA. I am sure that this year flim awards is booked for SAIF as a best WICKED VILLAN.
Its great that directors like Vishal do this kind of work. It will reach a lot more viewers as it is made in the national language of india. Plus who wants to see the unknown south indian actors do Shakespeare. It will still sound like a waiter reading the menu in an udipi restaurant.
REALLYREALLY........................................ GOOD ,I am not joking I really liked your work .In past u hav done great job ,in present u r doing wonderful and i think u will show your best in future. That's all from my side .
Dear Vishal ( Vishal Bhardwaj) I havent seen Omkara as yet nor read its reviews-- But I just read ur interview in rediff.com-- You are brilliant and omkara will be special--All the best
