Comment on rediff reviewer
by Mahesh on Jul 21, 2006 11:58 PM

Hi,
here's a note to the guy who writes reviews on rediff. Reading your review, good or bad doens't do much for a person wanting to watch the movie, except telling him the entire story. This is not what a review is supposed to do? Resurrecting a dead character in the climax.... blah blah.... why did you leave out the name?!!! Thank goodness I watched the movie already. You probably should have a SPOILER ALERT at the start of your articles.

Crazy and outlandish?
by Dorathy on Jul 21, 2006 11:15 PM

"The action is crazy and outlandish, but extremely elaborate, the kind you're likely to see in cartoons like The Road Runner and Tom & Jerry. It's fast-paced, but often goes on far longer than acceptable in a live-action film. There are some awesome moments, but -- just like the occasionally clever dialogues you keep straining to catch -- it's packed too tightly together, so you constantly feel like you've missed something."

If you mean 'crazy and outlandish' in a derogatory sense, well hellooo!!! Get a life, pal! We are talking like a couple of centuries ago - what do you expect? Rocky Balboa kind of stuff? Come on, I thought you knew better than that :) I think the action is very appropriate and in sync with the time setting... We're talking about East India Company days! And by the way, I didn't have to 'strain to catch' clever dialogues. They were all there - witty, charming, clever and absolutely hilarious.

As for action, I agree it was fast-paced, but that's the best part. I'm not a great fan of action - however this one kept me on the edge of my seat, mostly because it was a pure delight to watch (excluding the slimy, slithery Davey Jones and his crew...ewww!)

Oh come on, buddy!

No plot? What did you expect? An intelligent brain teaser story? This movie, (I agree with you in this), doesn't take itself seriously. It may be long, but I definitely didn't find it annoying and by the way, the plot, though it doesn't make much of a sense now, leaves you with a strange feeling of satisfaction - that you will get all your questions answered in another fun-filled ride with Jack Sparrow. We can be sure that he will NEVER EVER let us down :)

However if you are a person who is impatient and needs to understand every micro issue as soon as it springs up, you may not enjoy this after-all!

Whatever our views may be of the plot, we have to agree with Sen that this movie is a gas, big time! I loved Jack's Sparrow's entrance and it makes me laugh even now when I think about it. It was a trip! If you remember, his entrance in 'Pearl' is considered the best introduction to a character in the last decade.

And then, there's the brilliant backgroud score keeping up with the mood of the movie. All in all, this movie is very entertaining. If you are a 'Pirates' fan, I am sure you will embrace it with no qualms - and the flaws, if any, you will generously forgive.
