Could there be another shade of patriotism in RDB?
by Anjali on Feb 01, 2006 09:53 PM

HI,
I saw RDB in Chicago on Sat and the theatre was jam packed. A bunch of friends and myself had to sit seperately.

It is a very good film, no doubts about it. The picture of impulsive youth could not have been depicted in a better way then this.

I enjoyed the movie to the hilt specially with all fellow desis whistling, clapping as if I am back at homeland.

But, I kept thinking, whether the theme could have been treated with a difference. I think the movie\'s theme was more negatively inspirational. The protagnist of the movie picks up guns to revenge his friend\'s de-glamourization by the media and the bureaucracy. Is indian youth really so impulsive and insensitive to their family\'s future?
I think, with the media gaining swing in India and 19 odd News channels coming up nationally(not even mature countries like UK and US have that many news channels), media could have been the tool to victory of the good over the evil then Guns. That would have been the movie of the real modern India.
Today's youngsters can be more responsible then this.

RDB - Can't be anything but a hit
by Janaki Surendranath on Feb 01, 2006 02:58 PM

I saw Rang De Basanti on Saturday. The location is New Jersey, USA. It was a full house and I can vouch for the fact that each and every one among the audience left the movie hall stirred. It did something to cause a very deep impact. A very powerful message narrated with perfection.

The timing of this movie is perfect. The world is filled with a generation of Indians going places. I mean from a purely business perspective India Rocks. And this movie is all set to make the current rocking youth of India think of ways to ensure that India Rocks in all arenas and sustains its Rocking Status.

Kudos to the director and the all powerful star cast and crew of Rang De Basanti. And yes, Amir Khan definitely has his sense of social responsibilty well placed unlike some of his colleagues. And how do I know this. Amir Khan does not act his role in Rang De Basanti, he lives it. And that can happen only if you believe in what you are doing.

I definitely hope this movie sets the tone for more such classics to emerge from Bollywood.

The New Generation, new thinking, hundreds of way to lead and enjoy the life but when come to the responsibility towards nation, go past or present, our young Indian blood is always ready to sacrifice their life to prove that the love towards our mother India never fades.... Great movie and surely a dreat sense of humor by director, hope Rang De Basanthi really brings the real spirit to our young Indians.

over rated
by chaman ganjoo on Feb 01, 2006 02:06 AM

the movie is okeish...it has been over rated due to lack of any decent hindi cinema in recent times....it reminds one of the movie YUVA by Mani Ratnam...delivers the same message...the music and performance was good though.

Hazaron khwaishein aisi...

When I went to cinema to grab the last chance to watch RDB here abroad, I had an enthusiasm as I knew who made this movie and I had grown a image and and expected alot before entering in the hall. All enthusiasm slowly dissipated although it still entertained me till the end. there were many uncomfortable and undigestable moments in the movie and at the end the whole movie turned out to me half-baked.To follow the line of heroics of the history it went too far to raise the atrocity and therefore created such a plot which is not realistic. Movie drives emotionally but that's occasional. Music really backs the scenes and that's really brings the emotions out but that has nothing to do with the major part of direction.I liked rakeysh O Mehra for his style and sleakness he brought in.This movie also leaves some impression in that point of view. But its certainly not a great movie. It is too raw at many points and too weak on others. The best part of the movie is that its unpredictable. You keep guessing that ROM's directorial greatness is coming now or then but it never comes to that extent. Its a good movie at the end but not a great one. The movie kept searching its soul.
