Priyan, why not more Virasats and Muskurahats
by Hasnain Bokhari on Jan 08, 2006 04:42 AM

I believe this will be a right move by Priyadarshan to return (I repeat, to return) to serious cinema. He has serious movies like Gardish, Virasat and Saza-e-Kala Pani to his credit. But after that there was a huge shift in his direction, that can be seen in Hera Pheri and other comedies like Garam Masla. Muskurahat was one such comedy which can be rated as one of the finest comedies Hindi film industry has ever produced, the comedy without the label of sex comdedies(like in No Entry and Masti). Not even the approach in direction, even the songs in his films are just forgettable. Take for example the songs of Virasat, Gardish and Kabhi Na Kabhi, all of them won some awards in one capacity or the other. The social thinker and the softness/seriousness seemed to disappear in Priya's direction. I am all up for his move to serious cinema and in fact it would be a great contribution to the cinema.

I dont know if he had ever taken any original movie.
Others are all is remakes of malayalam, tamil or telugu.
Kyon ki(mal rip),ye tera ghar mera ghar (telugu rip),hulchal. He is not master filmmaker.
I think if he has decided to wuit commercial cinema, its good for him.

Thanks,
rup

Dear Harpreet,

I take it from your name that you are from the Sikh tribe just like I am.

However, before I proceed I must also say that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. A sikh Christian you can call me.

I disagree with you when you say that Hinduism is not exclusive. The term "exclusive" in the current context, should ideally be an oxymoron. You see if Christianity is one idea and Hinduism is another. And we know that Christianity claims to be the only way/idea to God, and Hinduism claims that all ways/ideas lead to the same God.

In this case there is a loud contradiction. If you say that Hinduism preaches that "all" ways/ideas lead to the same God, then the "all" would have to include Christianity as a way/idea also. However if it does that, then it lands up in a mess because Christianity does not allow any other way/idea.

You might try to make the following deductions.

Maybe Christianity is wrong.

Maybe Hinduism is wrong.

Maybe both Christianity and Hinduism are wrong.

But as long as the tenets of both religions remain constant, you can't possibly tell me that both Christianity and Hinduism are right. And that, my friend, is exactly what you're saying

I never liked his films. I always thought the characters in his movies were over the top and the violence and the shouting (Hulchul for instance) was too much.

I also read that he shoots a lot of takes per scene. I feel sorry for his editors who have to put the film together.

But I do appreciate his ability to understand the cinegoers sensibility and their culture (North and South). If he directed Ramji Londonwaley which was a South remake, it might have done better. :)

There is nothing to do with your likes and dislikes. All for you reply is the box-office results of his films.Tell me the original characters or scanes which is silent or normal in bollywood.
