This is the first time ... I ever appreciated acting ... the way Sushmita played the role of Basanti was simply outstanding ... she effectively plays the role of a mother to a child when she lashes at the priest ... I saw a mother's heart in Basanti - played by Sushmita Sen. It had so much complex emotions, which would require utmost vivid description ... and sentences would not suffice to describe it ... This scene has been lingering in my head for so long ... that performance - starting from a common prostitute to a helpless lover and mother to a powerful 'Kali' .. meant something to me ... it was something worthwhile to watch ... I would have confused Sushmita for Basanti ... really ... Kudos!!! This is the first time I have ever praised or written for a movie ... but for Sushmita's performance in Chingaari ... I had to say something...
Altough the story doesnt fit in todays scenario....But great job done by Sushmita Sen. Again you proved yourself. You r simply great whether a mod teacher in Main hoon Na or prostitute in chingari. Sirf Tum,Samay,Filhaal,Main Hoon Naa ,Chingari...gud move.... Great job sush Keep it up....
Once again sushmita as an actress has potrayed her vibrant diversity. The movies cannot be downplayed merely because it doesnot have the commercial flavor. The movie may not be commercially viable but there is a message which is so much upfront and very clearly said. I believe former Miss Universe is ready to give all the other actress a run for their money.
It was a real disappointment to watch a movie like this from Kalpana Lazmi. When I was about to watch the movie, I saw public coming out of the theatre with various reactions. Some of them were so dumb that they just didn't know how to react, others were literally snatching hair out of head. I thought it could be because of their lack of understanding of creative art. I realized that I was too smart to think like that ... :-( Don't watch it ... pleaaassseeee.
Ms Jain, You being a reporter of this esteem website rediff you should atleast have that capability to judge a movie, I belive you lack that Iq. How can u lift up Sushmita so much when she delivers poor acting skills in the movie, she doesnt even learn how to thru dialogues and how to give perfect expressions as per scence of the movie, whereas Mithun da is really terriffic you have said about his poor acting how can u dare to say that as i belive he has produce the most skill ful acting in this movie. As everyone praised him the movie is runnig only because of him, I belive you are aganst Mithun da.

Excuse me ... Sushmita's vibrant emotions and acting ... especially when she played the role of the mother to Titalli, and a helpless lover to the postman .. it was just real ... too real ... she was great!!! Mithun also deserves compliment for his great role - which was really good as well - he definitely got into the skin of the demon character!
'Chingaari' is a creative work ("The Postman and the Prostitute") of the Assamese genius Bhupen Hazarika that brings out emotional outrage of a sex worker against the dominance of a corrupt Godman.
In terms of performance 'Chingaari' belongs completely to Sushmita Sen. She deserves all the positive accolades of being selective and professional in delivering author-backed role. Mithun Chakraborty comes out with his finest role in his second innings as an actor after reckless performances 'Elaan'.
Mithun Chakraborty comes out in his one of his career's most meaningful caricature of demon Godman Bhuvan Panda. The gray shaded character suited his age and the body language matched the narration of his character.
The film may be too dark to digest for family audiences but will attract the media and the class audience. Chingaari' deserves good mouth publicity after 'Rang De Basant' as the second meaningful treat from Bollywood dream merchants. In nutshell, it can be termed as a woman show altogether with leading ladies Sushmita Sen and director Kalpana Lajmi as big winners.

i have seen the movie.the movie might b boring but the performances are first rate. who r u to comment on mithun's acting abilities? he is a legend. he is better than sushmita in the movie. even ila arun is good.
All these prostitutes look impoverished and are devoid of emotions due to hardships. Talk of a village prostitute and then decorate her with Loreal Makeup! Arghhhhhh! Give me something better and more realistic.
