Rang De Basanti

When I watched Rang de Basanti during the 1st part, I liked it a lot and told myself finally a movie to wake up the lazy youth of this country and put themselves back on track with the country's rapid progress..The second was the opposite of the first a vague theme and not well defined...very badly written and doesnt touch the core of the subject and contained so many defects and flaws...The Minister of Defense is Responsible for all Affairs in his ministry including but assassinating the 3rd most important man in the country for a air crash, death of a pilot and a few family and friend emotions doesnt justify destabilizing and assassinating the minister..and besides minister doesnt make these decisions...The assassination scene was such a mess up...The Minister of Defense has a 3-ring security consisting of local police, Armed State police and State reserve police...Second ring Parliamentary forces and Senior Officials and 3rd ring consisting of The NSG which is now replaced by The CISF and ...not to mention the intelligence agencies would've picked them up...Killing Mod is not killing a bird...This movie Absolutely dint make any sense i ditn even bother watching the ending

Rang de basanti

Valiant attempt..touching movie. Evoked the emotions the story teller wanted to evoke. Applause for the same. Characters well designed and cast. Overall a good story told in a good way.
But when I considered the team behind the movie..Rakyesh Mehra, Prasoon Joshi, Rensil De Silva and such heavy weights, I expected a bit more of a smoother flow of events. The past being forcefully inserted in the present in the form of Bhagat Singh, etc walking and merging with the present characters DJ, Sukhi, etc was a little kiddish, also Aslam and Pande getting that bismil vision was a bit overdone. I just feel maybe the story tellers shouldnt have underestimated the audiences intelligence..?
A more direct and direct approach would / could have
worked.. But hats off to the story tellers for keeping the characters alive even when they were being killed. I can still feel the laugh in the radio room. I like the way the youth and their attitudes have been kept alive while delivering the central message.
Keep up the good work guys. Cheers. Jai Hind

Juliet Andrews
not recommended for children

I guess everyone's entitled to their opinions...some liked the movie a lot, some did not. Regardless, I wouldn't agree with Ayeesha Sequeira's comments. In fact, a lot of children in the movie hall were scared and had a shocked look in their eyes, they cuddled close to their parents for comfort. Children are very innocent and impressionable, and one certainly can't expect them at their age, to be able to view the movie as you and I will. They would find the mindless violence in the movie disturbing.
This is a bold youth film and I would advise parents to be aware of this and exercise discretion while watching this movie with their children.

unrealistic and misleading!

sorry my dear friends ,i am not sardonic but frankly speaking i didn't like the movie.what does director want to prove by drawing parallels between days of freedom struggle and present?you can no way compare general dyer with indian politicians of today.it is fine that we should be aware of our history and must take inspiration from great revolutionaries but that doesn't imply we should go around killing politicians.brits were colonial rulers ,the outsiders whereas politicians are our own products.they reflect our culture, mindset and character only.we, the indians are corrupt, lazy and followers of "chalta hai" attitude.giving equal footage to all actors was definitely a plus point inthe movie.this can't be termed as an extraordinary performance from amir khan's standards.atul kulkarni deserves kudos, undoubtedly.even if you kill all the politicians of this country, what next?do you have any alternative system?and mr.rakesh mehra ji don't expect us to believe that killing defence minister of india would such a lollypop task.he never goes out for morning walks on delhi roads that too without Z+ security blanket.

Let's try
by Akshit on Feb 05, 2006 01:53 AM

I think already enuff has been said about how great and well made RDB is.......I would just like to add this much that all of us should not forget what movie has tried to convey to us...Generally we all have short memories and maybe we will forget the high emotions we are feeling right now...BUT I think the most important thing is that even if we can't do something dramatic for country , atleast we all should take a responsibility to remove corruption from our lives. if all of us become incorruptible , then how will corruption survive...let's not even think to preach to others and get rid of corruption from system by some large means..All those who can do that salute to them and my whole support to them but for all the rest of us ...I think it is important that we should just try ourselves to be non corrupt and that itself will help our great country. Even if one person refuses to take bribe...it will help in reducing corruption and if all of us just make this much effort...it will help!!!

Also, lets see why corruption is there...we say police is corrupt...why not...how do we expect a policeman with Rs. 5000 p.m. salary and work hours of 16 hrs not to be corrupt.(just an example)

RDB - A different perspective
by Naren on Feb 04, 2006 02:21 PM

A good movie. All aspects of film-making has been raised by a few notches (cinematography, dialogues, screenplay etc.).
One thing that i found in most of the reviews is about the use of violence ( killing the defence minister). My take-Aamir and his friends were acting in a documentary on the freedom fighters when their friend (Madhavan) died.So there is a case of reel life versus real life. Also there was a peaceful demonstration before they took the decision to kill the defence minister.
History is proof-that in a case where there is a group of people opposing any issue there are some moderates and some radicals(revolutionaries). In our freedom struggle we had Gandhiji and Subhash Chandra Bose. There are cases where good has prevailed over evil-by killing the evil.Good prevailing over evil by peaceful means-that could be a story for another new movie.Counter argument could be-at the end we got freedom via the peaceful method. If that were to be the case then, we do not need any military forces(army/navy/police etc.) at all. Everything can be handled peacefully. You need both-in some cases peaceful methods otherwise kill the evil. Though peaceful methods should be tried first.
