well everyone is entitled to personal opinion and most of the folks in B'wood have chosen to do the same, express individual opinion.
But probably they have neglected the backdrop against which he was arrested. He was arrested in wake of Mumbai riots and was finally convicted under Arms Act.
So if this 150-200 crore product of B'wood is left scotfree then tomorrow Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar may simply find it convenient to collect more dangerous weaponry.
He might have changed but that shouldn't change the quantum of punishment since it should act as a deterrent to others.

Punishments are meant to make the person realize that he/she has done wrong and hence to become a better person. And so if he has become better person now, he should get punished for what he did earlier.
And regarding the setting up of example, it is all shit. The crimes are increasing even after constant punishments.

I agree completely. If every criminal states that due to the punishment given to him/her, the family will suffer, then why have the complete judicial system in here. The bollywood folks have money and hence they will support their own kind be it a crime against nation or even murder etc. (Remember what Puru Rajkumar did?)
Bollywood supports Sanjay Dutt

The support for what? Let Bollywood do so after Sanjay Dutt being heard and judgement reviewed or confirmed.
