Well, it dosen't matter what the country has given to him, it matters what he has given to our country. But, his songs are still famous among young generation and appreciated by everyone. I think bharathratna or dada saheb cannot be par to people's choice.

haha.......so very well said boss....
but it would help if you could get your facts right.... in this case, the comparison is skin to one that you'd make for Sachin Tendulkar on one side and other 'good' cricketers on the other.....
please note that the possibility of such talents as Rafi Sahab, and now Tendulkar are one in crore if not lesser......
Cheers!!!
(please don't compare Rafi Sahab with other singers... we know that they are good and respected and cherished and remembered and followed and what not, but Rafi Sahab will always be special...... and realising this is no rocket science)
Rafi was a great singer but so were KLSaigal, mannadey, asha bhonsle, kishorekumar, parveen sultana, etc. All of them desrve to be honoured and they have always received biggest honour ie love of all of us, So no politiking please
As a singer I dont think Rafi saab was ever ignored or less respected. Even till date, senior persons as well as youngsters love to listen to his songs. There were and there are and there will be comparison betn him and Kishore. Which is totally foolishness on our part. Legends are legends, they shudn't be compared. We should feel luck enuf that we can enjoy their music and voice. But one thing I see is support from Film Industry to his family after his demise. I am not sure how much did his family gain from his GOLDEN VOICE. Obviously, Rafi's family cannot fill their stomach and live in Mumbai by listening to hi songs only. Which both the industry and we the public never supported his family for getting these after his demise.
Methinks Raafi saab was given his due by this country in terms of respect, recognition and success. He was a great singer but i dont think he deserved a Bharat Ratna. There are many others who have done more for this country.
