Kannadigas in the diaspora feel a sad loss with the passing away of Dr. Rajkumar !

Many among us who grew in postcolonial Goa have a special regard for the thousands of Kannadigas who crossed the Ghats and made Goa their home during the last forty five years.

Goa of the Portuguese period lacked qualified and capable workforce to meet the ever growing demands of the new and developing Goa. Hence after Liberation the young state had to rely on the hardworking scientists, doctors, nurses, engineers, professors, school teachers, construction workers, electricians, drivers, suppliers of fruit and vegetable and many others from Karnataka. The Kannadigas with their excellent work culture were able to play an important and constructive role in the making of today's new Goa.

In the early years of adjustmment the Kannadigas in Goa had few avenues for cultural life and relaxation. The occasional Kannada films screened in some of our cinema houses were the only sources of entertainment bringing along memories of their homeland, language and culture. Kannada songs and films of Dr. Rajkumar had great therapeutic value for the thousands of Kannadigas who found psychological and emotional well being from them.

Our heartfelt condolences to our Goan Kannadiga friends !

by Manjunath on Aug 04, 2006 11:59 PM
I am software engineer, my mother tongue is telugu, even though I donot to watch film, I watch films of Dr. Rajkumar, the natasarvobhovma(king among actors), sometimes, I still love Dr. Rajkumar, whether it be a films or as person, he has that magnetic power to attract people because of his good character and simple person and humbleness. I ask god please bring him back again to kannada, i.e karnataka state like Dr. Rajkumar. MGR+NTR+RAJINIKANTH = Dr. RAJKUMAR. Our big brother has passed away it is a great concern. I love kannada, and Dr. Rajkumar

Dr. Raj Kumar was "Bangarada Manushya". People like him are not born everyday but only once in a lifetime.
Even after having seen great successful career he was a great example of simplicity and modesty to all of us.May God Bless this Greatest Soul of Indian Cinema.
Dr.Raj was a person that every Kannadiga would identify and admire.
Though he has left us,but he will always be present with us in the beautiful and everlasting movies he portrayed.
