I saw the movie Amu in Hyderabad at it's special screening at the Prasads multiplex with my wife. The film has an interesting story-line and some very good performances by the actors. Konkana, as usual was outstanding.
The movie drove home how senseless communal divisions are, how counter productive sectarian politics is - how shameful and dehumanizing the resultant violence can be, without creating any sense of hatred: Brilliant handling of the issue by the director! It made me, my wife and many others in the audience weep.
Most importantly, it strengthened our resolve to protect and promote the secular fabric (fragile as it might be) of this great country.
I hope we will continue to get such brilliant movies from Sonali.
AMU is an excellent movie directed by first timer Shonali Bose. Beautifully narrated, it is a heartwarming story of a young girl in dearch of her roots and how she comes to face the truth with reality. Konkona Sen in the lead role is just superb and does full justice to her role. Good direction and cameos from the rest especially Yashpal Sharma & Brinda karat. This is a must see movie and deservedly got the National Award for Best English Feature Film.
It is heartening to hear the the toronto audience welcomed it very well.
While on Ash, there's always too much hype and its not surprising that the movie hasn't received glowing reviews. Ash has still a long way to come up as a good actress.
