Garam Masala - no Masala and nothing Garam about it!!
by Prabhat on Nov 08, 2005 11:26 AM

Rediff (Raja Sen)!!

I read your review and was hoping that it'd turn out to be a fair assessment of the film but I was wrong.

This movie lacks in Plot and Characterization. Only Akshay and to some extent Paresh (wasted in this film) are the saving grace.

The situations are forced in this movie unlike No Entry where you were convinced of the situational humor. The songs are utterly forgetful except for the first and last songs which are still hummable. John should stick to action films only as he tries too hard in this movie and fails dismally. There is very little for all others in this movie to write anything about.
Dialogues are just ok and the location of Mauritius is wasted (most of the film is inside a house).

Hope next time Rediff will ensure that it serves a truthful and a fair assessment of the movie to its readers!!

I can't believe the people of India are stupid enough to watch this and forget a superb film like Kyon Ki.

It shows what Indian people are upto these days!

Girls- know about boys tricks used in 2/3 timing by watching garammasala
by ajay on Nov 08, 2005 01:49 AM

Girls know about boys tricks used in 2/3 timing by watching garammasala. Some of my friends are really worried after their tricks are publically exposed through garammasala. Some are trying the best to dowride the movie to make as less people to watch. Sorry guys you are fighting a loss case. Garammasala is a Superhit.

Infact the makers of the film have decided to hold a special screening of the film only for the female fans! The screening will be held at Fame Malad, this coming Thursday. This event is being held due to popular demand.

Funniest Film of the Year
by abdya on Nov 07, 2005 08:48 PM

I agree with the rediff review Garam Masala is the funniest movie of the year and the box office collections of the movie shows that this one will be one of the biggest hits of the year.

Garam Masala is Tasteless
by Ganesh Suryanarayana on Nov 07, 2005 07:43 PM  | Hide replies

When I first saw the promos of GM on TV with the song Ada and couple of funny lines by Paresh Rawal, I believed this would be a entertainer, similar on lines of Hera Pheri, Hungama and Hulchul, although this one didnt begin with a H. I took my car, got the directions from map quest and drove to Cine Plaza cinema in North Bergen, New Jersey. I bought a ticket for $9 for 7 PM show, which was almost full. WOW, I said to myself, must be a good movie.

The movie starts wonderfully with Ada where in Makarand a.k.a Mak (Akshay) and Shyam a.k.a Sam (John) taking pictures of models in the sands of Mauritius. Later we are told they work for a magazine Garam Masala, thats where the name of the movie comes from. Sam is Maks junior in the profession. Sam is engaged to Anjali (Rimii) who is practicing medicine.

Things take a u-turn and Sam becomes Maks senior. Mak starts living in big apartment, hires a cook, Mambo (Paresh) and starts dating three airhostesses. Mak is doing all this because he wants to show he is better than Sam, dont know what was intended? There was this guy next to me who said, maaf kar yaar, hindi movie hai, dimaag kyon laga raha hai? (Pardon it friend,

Thanda masala
by dheeraj on Nov 07, 2005 07:11 PM  | Hide replies

Hey Guys
garam Masala is beautifully crafted for being the most pathetic movie of the year.
Its so sad, so repetitive, so loud and so crap , that you come out wondering whats wrong with priayadarshan.

The movie Shamefully shot in a House makes you cry for your precious money wasted on this damp squib , which could have been easily utilised elsewhere.

The songs , seems like are essentially fit in to relive us from claustrophobia that sets in as soon as all characters enter the flat.

Well message is loud and clear - dont trust rediff reviews and look for this guy called raja sen, donno what makes him think that its the funniest film of the year from director who has given us classics like hera feri.
Guys please refrain before its too late.

Highly unavoidable plz

Hey Ajay,

Only some talented Directors can exploit great actors like Lal, Mamooty, Big B, Om Puri... Languages are not a big issue for these stars. Bansali, Adoor, Ratnam, Priyan Etc. are some great directors.

Just have a look at the career of Rawal, Abhishek...
I hope u could understand ( Only U).

Cheers,
Jana Yedar

Unfair to compare
by rahul on Nov 07, 2005 03:01 PM  | Hide replies

Well,

It's unfair to compare Akshay with Mohanlal. The latter is a legend nd few in India(if any) can match him when it comes to humour....So, it's better we refrain from comparisons..But then, I know that more often that not, we can't help it ...

Ciao,

Mohanlal is nothing outside his regional language. He can act as sidekicks though.

Ajay,

You seem to be very much frustrated with some of the comments posted, mentioning about Mohanlal as an icon/one of the best in the country. You cannot justify yourself saying that Mohanlal is nothing outside the regional films....you yourself are bringing in regionalism...I do not know where are you from...but its disgusting on your part to say something like this on a widely accepted and recognized persona like Mohanlal. If Mohanlal is only good in Malayalam movies, then Amitabh Bachchan and Mani Ratnam would not have showered their praises on him....just improve your knowledge and tunnel vision.

Deepak

No masala for me please!!
by dritesh on Nov 07, 2005 02:28 PM  | Hide replies

Garam Masala my foot!! Here's a classic case of another director with a superiority complex. Garam Masala is a pathetic excuse of a movie especially if ure shelling out multiplex bucks for a nice evening of fun. Either he takes a break or he goes back south where he belongs!!
