Tamil Cinema has always had an edge over Bollywood.
by Praveen on May 26, 2005 03:07 PM

Tamil Cinema along with Malayalam and Bengali cinema has always produced quality cinema to its viewers. I sincerely feel that a number of Bharathiraaja's and Balachander's movies also need to be in the list, that have gone unnoticed. But luckily Mani Ratnam is the only trans lingaul director India has ever produced. His films reflect reality and has cut across language barriers. Its indeed a honour for the Tamil people across the world. Hope that many young film makers follow his foot steps and make more and more quality films.

Its high time that Bollywood makes good cinema. It had some real good film makers liek Bimal Roy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Raj Kapoor. Film producers and directors have to remember that only the good and true talent can survive time.

Somehow I feel that you guys at rediff try to downgrade regional movies especially Tamil. Its really sad that people like you always portray Hindi movies as representative of Indian film industry.

Don't belittle Nayakan
by santhana gopalan on May 24, 2005 08:30 PM  | Hide replies

It is sad to see you depict NAYAKAN in dim light while you highlight the other two movies with great regard. It is fact that the so called indian films made in Mumbai with some stupid actors(who have no stuff) will never be able to appear in such list. This article in times magazine has only Reemphasized the hype surrounding the bollywood movies.

this is a reply 2 sri talking about tamil cinema being no. 1. dude i stay in tamil nadu 2 n hav seen enough f tamil cinema 2 tell tat 1 gud movie comes out in a million. there are still movies of rajnikanth which are ridicuolous. tamil movies are basically masala movies, sumthing u had in bollywood in the 1970's. there is vulgar comedy with no respect to a persons age or gender. making fun of women seems 2 b a theme all tamil movies directors bank upon. for example a movie like 'BOYS' was vulgar n offensive to women. making fun of women seems 2 entertain the crowd here. A movie like 'MANMATTAN' where are psychopaths activities are justified are killing women, wat ever thier fault mite be aint rite.
think about it.
