Great Hero.. indeed
by Raman on Dec 09, 2005 05:04 PM

I can understand if some one criticizes the review. But to express doubts over the heroism of Netaji is only childish. It reminds me of "the dog barking at the sun"

NetaJi was, is, and will be the source of inspiration for this as well as coming generation. Who says that he is forgotten, he is still alive in our hearts, we will never forget him, he was really a great hero, source of tremdous inspiration. He is the Hero of Young, bcz young people always belive in Revolution and he was the King of Revoluation, "Tum Mughe Khun Do, Mai Tumhe Aazadi Dunga" will never be forgotten.

Jai Hind.

A must-watch for all Indians
by Rahul Choudhary on Jun 12, 2005 11:02 PM

Though a movie on India's first "action hero" starts on a lame and tepid note (a conversation with Gandhiji where Netaji gives up his Congress membership), the movie catches up soon after.
Sachin Khedekar does justice to the role as no one else possibly could have. Kudos to this superb Marathi actor!
Ila Arun, Rajpal yadav, Rajeshwari Sachdev and Kulbhushan Kharbanda touch your heart despite their small roles.
Being a third generation Indian, I feel this is a movie every youngster of this generation should see - so that we remember the oft-forgotten struggles that not only Netaji but so many other ordinary Indians went through to give us the freedom that we now take for granted...

I so don't agree!

A silly film and an even sillier review. I am really really angry with Shyam Benegal for having made such a tedious film on *the* most enigmatic and exciting personality of India's struggle for independence. Sachin Khedekar's seriously miscast. It is *not* enough to select an actor who bears a physical resemblance to the principal character of your film. The former ought to be able to portray the charisma, the motivations and the passions of the latter succesfully. Khedekar is namby-pamby. Bose was a strong man, a charismatic leader a bold patriot who saw it fit to seek out the biggest political personalities of his time in order to serve the cause of India's freedom. Benegal is unable to analyse how he did this. Benegal's film fails to tap at the source of Netaji's passionate beliefs and his immense personal courage... The story is narrated in too linear a fashion! Where is the drama? Where is the pathos of the story of a man let down again and again and again? Where is the glorious moral that the strength of belief and faith in a cause are important above all else including perosnal life...
Bose the film is a dud. It lets down Netaji while pretending to tell his story.

Comments on the review of the movie: Bose

I am really surprised at the review of the movie : Bose-The forgotten Hero by Sumit Bhattacharrya. This is no way to review a movie. The initial paragraph he writes is all crap. Who wants to listen to his own personal story about ragging at Presidency College. He has not done any justice to the great work by the legendary director Shyam Benegal.

I am a Bengali too and have stayed in Kolkata for a good number of years. I have never heard of the bizzare story that "Netaji had jumped from his house from a parachute". God knows, how this was related to the review of the movie.

Mr,Bhattacharrya probably forgot that his job was to review the movie instaed he filled it with his own personal reactions about the movie. Even at the end he notes that the movie is not for scholar but for the masses. A movie is made for the masses not the scholars. The scholar know enough about Netaji. It is for the commaon masses to know about the great man, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Regards,

Aveek Majumdar
