The music for Baba was by AR Rahman, not Vidyasagar! Rahman would compose for "Bombay Dreams" at night and work on "Baba" through the day, exchanging music files over the net. The music didn't probably break record sales, but it did fairly well.

Recently the same movie was re made in Kannada under the name 'Aapthamitra' which had the late talented actress Soundarya in the lead role. The makers of the movie nor the media did not even mention even once that it was based of the malayalam classic. The film has become a big hit all over karnataka.
Two songs are directly lifted from Kananada "Aptamitra" which is remade in Tamil(Incidently the reviewer has forgot to mention this). Raa and Paata paata are lifted from kannada.
