Satriani taught Vai, and a lotta other people. Vai is of course a genius, but one of his first mentors was Satriani.

Please note... that it is Joe Satriani who was a student of Steve Vai's NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! And trust me... ANY WEBSITE on the internet will vouch for that.
