Absolutely Brilliant

I thought Paheli was absolutely fantastic, the way they have narrated and acted out the story no one would believe that the love story is about a ghost and a woman. It takes sensitivity to understand such a plot..I thought Shah Rukh was fantastic as usual!!

An amazingly well made movie. It was for the mature audience. I know a lot of people didn't understand it, rather couldn't believe that there can be a love story between a ghost and a human being. But that's what fiction is all about!

After stealing the story of Swades from a Kannada movie (Chigurida Kanasu), Bollywood is at it again, now stealing the story of another Kannada movie Nagamandala.

Interestingly both these Kannada movies were based on Jnanpith award winning stories. Looks like Bollywood is after Kannada literature which has bagged the highest Jnanpith awards in the country.

When it comes to stealing stories from Kannada industry, bollywood never accepts it probably because of the soft nature of Kannadigas.

Remember "Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai", it is a direct copy of Dr. Rajkumar's 70's hit "Bangaarada Panjara". There are many such movies, for example "Beta" and the recently released "Bhagbaan".

Shame on you Bollywood !!

very good deepak, atleast you have noticed it.bollywwod is really bad in this case.both swades, paheli and jis desh me ganga behti hai are never touch the quality of their original versions in kannada.
we should react to the attitude of bollywood.

Paheli

I thought Kaal was the worst Hindi movie i had watched in a while but i have to admit, Paheli takes the cake. To put it in brief, it's nothing short of torture to sit through the entire movie.I guess Amol Palekar's taking himself too seriously, Rani Mukherjee needs a good long break and well Shah Rukh Khan had better go back to what he does best..being the stupid hero that has made him the overhyped king of the masses. And as for Mr. Subhash Jha or whoever the wise guy is who wrote Paheli's review, i guess i'm skipping the next review that you write!!

Can it get Worse?

This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in the last few years. I generally dont come out of theater unless the movie is REAL CRAP. This is of that cadre. This is the second movie (First one was Kisna) I came out after first half.

Shame to rediff for having such people review movies. I dont think I'll trust rediff reviews anymore.

Paheli reminds of Nagamandala
by Dr.Rohini on Jun 28, 2005 08:26 PM

Paheli is so much similar to Nagamandala,a Kannada movie written by Girish Karnad and directed by Nagabharana. It had Prakash Rai in the dual role and as stage plays it was Shankar Nag[of Malgudi Days fame]who played this role

Paheli is a revelation

Hey Rediff, you were not expecting the kind of backlash from the public for your earlier review of Paheli, right? So you have gone and got another one written, this time in a more sober language and without the childish exclamations like "Oh my god" et al!!!

Good going. But I think you still cannot save the movie from what it is.

Pahelis paheli

Though watching the movie Paheli this week end can not be regretted but I believe it could be better .From the calibre of Amol Palekar , shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukhejee we can expect more.It looses the track time to time then comes on the track .
The depth we expect from the the film maker is misssing some where in between the glitz of the stars .
Amol palekar seems to be too much overshadowed by the weight of Big star cast he had.Too many songs in a movie also break that flow of emotions and the link a viewer makes with the story teller and the characters .
Now the question is that why cant we say that this is the Best piece of work on this story??? why there is a factor which is missing out there even from the people we expect so much ??
