Mr Bhattacharya after going through your "expert" views on Parineeta, i am stunned to see how the so called critics like you can have the freedom of such mindless and stupid blasphemy! Its really horrible to see that you compared such a wonderful and well made movie with a "music video" ! So, it can only mean 3 things, either you have extremely high expectations from a music video , or you dont have any knowledge of movies at all, or worse , you are a cynic who cant see things being done in a better way , by a non-Bengali producer! Dont misuse the privilage of being a writer in a mass medium like Rediff.com, we definately dont visit the site to appreciate your "different", "out-of-the-box" thoughts or your literary skills. Its hight time that Rediff rethinks its content and instills some amount of responsibility in to its writers!
what a melodramatic, stupid film! The climax is one of the WORST scenes in a recent Hindi movie, and that's saying something. Although Sanjay and Saif are great, Vidya Balan has a total Manisha Koirala fixation. I can't believe this idiotic film is from the Vidhu Vinod Chopra stable- the same source of Khamosh and Parinda! Devdas was way way better than this movie, and even then it was not very great!
Hi I watched the movie after a long time, after almost deciding it was ok not to watch it. I dont care about whether the director stuck to the original work, what is the truth about calcutta in that period and whether saifs guitar was available because i dont remember that. All I can remember is the story of a woman who knew she belonged to a man, A man who felt she was only his and another man who only cared for her. And now i wish I could read the book in a way that Devdas did not inspire me. And only for all this the movie deserves all the kudos that it gets and will get. I dont know if the director/actor/actress/supporting actors will recieve any awards but I do want to tell them. You made a movie which touched my heart. Thank You.
Problem is that Sumit Bhattacharya is a bengali(please correct me if I am wrong), and being a bengali myself I know that we are pretentious at times, especially when it comes to our literature or anything that is exclusively Bengali. So nothing is good enough. I have not seen the movie but seems to me that all my other Bengali friends loved it. And we have all read the novel and seen the other versions. Of course seems like the movie has been bollywoodified somewhat... but even the recent, most terrible rendition of Devdas had some entertainment value to it. I think judging by Vinod Chopra's track record, Parineeta will be far better than that. But I will have to find out for myself.
Vidya Balan took me by surprise. She's such a beauty and also acts.
I read the reviews just for it's sake to make the writer feel happy. Looking at the list of flops, I can say Parineeta is a far better film. With no obscenity for a change.
Im tired of the rediff reviews.. Im a frequent visitor of rediff review. but i find none very usefull. Pareenta is a good movie rediff. better than Paheli. If u intend to support an aimless movie like paheli..its better to stop this review section the reviewers can go for some other jobs.. only bcs of ur reviews i have missed a lot of good movies.I suggest all never go on with the rediffs review. its just a waste of time
Your reviews are too harsh on a well made movie made on such a simple story line.Great music and touching relationships in this movie are a welcome change in todays remix movies.Definitely better than the painstakingly vulgarly expensive devdas.A must see.
movie was better than the review for a non Bong like me, who has never been to calcutta and has not lived in that era ... may be for the author who probably is a Bong the whole thing is not acceptable.. but an youngster like me whatever is portrayed in the movie is the representation of that era in Calcutta... and from what Ive heard from my bong friends, there is a lot of similarity if not entirely same...as far as the culture is concerned...
