I think Mr. Ghai hasn't seen too many films if he thinks that TAAL is one of the best films that India has produced. His justification may be Roger Ebert's selection in the most overloked films selection but that was only an indicator of Mr. Ebert's appreciation of the Bollywood genre. If you read Mr Ebert's review of the film on his site he specifically mentions that he did not understand the film when he saw it at Hyderabad despite giving it three stars. And in any case there are umpteen films by filmakers like Ray, Ghatak, V Shantaram, A Gopalkrishnan, Bimal Roy, Benegal, Buddhadeb Dasgupta which deserve a place ahead of TAAL. Even is this list is representative of Bollywood then where are Satya, Lagaan, Ardh Satya, Masoom and the list goes on. Perhaps Mr. Ghai should go back to film school(his coming up Whispering Woods) and attend a film appreciation course instead of putting up trash like TAAL AND HAHK KKHH.
if success at the box office is what makes a film good then definitely the last three movies mentioned in ghai's list are good ie acc to him but they are in reality the kind of movies that should never dare to be included in a list that has names like sholay, pyaasa, mother india b'coz the latter are what class in movies are about. its like the difference between bernard shaw and mills and boon novels.
As per your choice for india's best film why would you included TAAL instead of TAAL.HERO is the best film and don't forget about LAGAAN and BLACK. these two film has given india to compete with HOLLYWOOD film and also created a world wide name for india.
Looks like Mr.Ghai was in a terrible 'ghai' when you asked him to jot down the Top 10. While Dosti is pleasant surprise, I would really love to know from Mr.Ghai what brought the last three into that list so that I can then try to analyse how those three are ahead of any of Raj Kapoor's, Bimay Roy's, K.Asif, Kamlaal Amrohi's. If about the 90's what about Ramu, Vaastav, et al? I wonder how that marriage ceremony with a movie name longer than the ceremony itself is better....
This is with reference to list of greatest 10 Hindi films given by Mr.Subhash Ghai, it is surprising that he has included his own film Taal which is nowhere near to being a great film, it is very difficult to accept that Taal can be a better film than 'Ardh Satya' or 'Mughal-e-Azam' or 'Mahal' or even a 'Pakeezah'. Mr.Sunhash Ghai should certailnly relook into his selection. Ofcourse he has a right to his choice but the last three films mentioned certainly do not deserve to be merited as greatest fils ever.
Please change the title for this feature to "Subhash Ghai's Selection of Greatest Hindi Movies". Better films are made in rest of India (if at all you consider them as part of India).
Seeing the list, I wonder Ghai has seen only Hindi films. Mr. Ghai, Hindi films are not the only ones in Indian film industry. Maybe he'nt heard about Malayalam,Bengali,Tamil films. Let him know this request...
