The problem is not only with the star cast but also with other aspects like music, direction, cinematography etc. As for Farha Khan, she should better stick to choreography. Her first film had all the masaledar elements of the 70's & 80's. And now she is picking the entire film. And movies like Mughal-e-azam, Mother India, Sholay etc. cannot be made in a beeter way because they are the best. Think of SRK as Salim & ASh as Anarkali...Where is the beauty of Dilip-Madhubala pair? Also these films have become text books of film making ...the current filmmakers are just refering to these text books and copying it down.I think colourising & re mastering is a better way to bring these classics back to the audience. But again those who are interested to see good& meaningful movies will watch them whether in B&W or in colour.
Hi, I think that Sholay should be left alone.Any attempts at remaking it will only amount to descretation of a holy classic. For rightly someone has said that you can replace Amitabh or Dharmendra but how will you find a substitute for "Soorma Bhopali".
The subject line says it all... PLease leave Mughal-E-Azam alone... ON a second thought wouldnt hurt to add, that dont try to re-make Mother India too..
... So we cannot say if these remakes would be a bunch of flops or hits.
But I personally feel the present day directors should leave ALL THE CLASSIC OLDIES alone and try giving us something new, fresh and classy like LAGAAN, BLACK Or DIL CHAHTA HAI.
So Ram Gopal Varma is remaking Sholay? And casting the erstwhile Jai as Gabbar? And Farhan Akhtar is remaking Don with Shahrukh Khan? Someone stop these people from messing with our memories. Who can replicate Bachchans Don as he swaggers in flapping coat tails and throws an exploding brief-case at his foes? Who can match the wild cat attitude of Zeenat Aman as she walks into a restaurant, scarf knotted saucily around the neck or when she tells Don, ``Just a moment please!'' and proceeds ro make mince meat of his cronies? Sholay can never be remade. Neither can Don. Classics can be interpreted differently but they should not be tampered with. It is frustrating that instead of creating their own milestones, talented filmmakers like Varma and Akhtar are taking the easy way out and stealing pieces of our collective memory. For the generation that grew up watching Jai play a mouth-organ in the Ramgarh dusk and saw Don die slowly and arrogantly in the backseat of a police officer's car, no cinematic clones will ever cut the mustard.
i dont know how to react to this new wave in Bollywood. People may have their own reasons. but no one should touch Mughal-e-azam. there are lot other classics and milestones in bollywood.. viz. pakiza, sujata, bandini, khamoshi(vaheeda rehman), mother india, anupama, sadhna, dhool ka phool,...(all woman oriented)and also some other classics..such as parakh ..(based on elections in a small village).. which shold not be touched...let them be in thier original beauty... who are we to copy them... they are the PEHCHAAN of a lot of different people....
Let the classics remain untouched. History in Bollywood has proved that all remakes from the great classics have proved failure at the boxoffice. Original will always remain in the hearts and minds of cinegoers and they will not accept the new versions. Example: BR Chopra's Dastaan - which was a remake from BR chopra's directional debut Afsana. there are many such other examples. A Bagha
