I am really surprised that Rediff has never profiled
the genius of South Indian cinema - Maestro Ilayaraja.
The whole of Nporth India has taken note of Ar
Rahman. But it seems many of them have not taken note
of Ilayaraja. No doubt AR Rahman is brilliant, but
whatever he claims to have done like fusing Indian and
Western has all been done
before by the Genius Ilayaraja. It's a pity that in
the north people have not recognized him.
But as far as South is concerned he is the King of
Music. And he is recognized interantionally too. All
that AR Rahman is doing now, Ilayaraja
has done it before. And does Rahman rally know about
Melody and background score
- this where Ilayaraja really dwarf's Rahman.
Do a search on the net for Ilayaraja and you will know
his greatness and the no of websites dedicated to him.
Probably the most no of site for any music composer in
the world.

U should feel Proud
by Subbu on Jul 22, 2005 11:18 AM

You should feel proud instead of being unhappy ..
while doing such period type films one should not expect any returns , its a tribute to India and to the people of that time
if a music director feels like this then wht abt the directors , actors and producers and even these people starts thinking like you and stop producing the films then the coming generations will not have essence of Great Indian History ...
So Let please feel proud of doing such good work and please continue to do the good work ...
Above all The i am deeply impressed by the of your work in Bose and Bhagat Singh , I almost listen to songs of Bose everyday expecially Azaadi song

by Jai on Jul 20, 2005 01:09 PM

Actually, Rahman music was a fantastic experience in all the period films, including the latest release "Bose & Mangal Pandey". Each and every soundtrack was an excellent masterpiece. We are expecting all the types of music from Rahman. Rahman! Don't give up! We are here, always to support you and your effort won't go waste.

Good move, but....
by Ramesh on Jul 19, 2005 06:37 PM

Right move for the time being. But Rahman, I think your best music has come with period films. Lagan, Zubeida and Bose are legends. You r the only one now in the scene who has the capability to do such films also. But similar themes can kill the variety of ur music.

So please instead of not taking period films further u can decide to take it less frequently. Because you are at the best doing period films.

Sad
by Prakash on Jul 19, 2005 04:08 PM

All his period films are down to earth. Even now my laptop is playing BOSE and Rising shuffeled. I feel very pleasent and peace admis of tension and hectic work. If no Rahman then who else? yet to be born... Even I don't know why BOSE went unnoticed with such a great music... I would say the soundtrack ever in indian music.
