We are colonizers? HA!
by kaurpower on Aug 20, 2005 12:24 AM

Wouldnt being a colonizer entail us settling in a country? Being an Indian American, I resent you comparing what the US is doing in Afghanistan/Iraq as anything similar to what the British did in India? It also saddens me that my fave actor (Aamir Khan) would also say the same. I may not agree with the war in Iraq, but we are in no way "Colonizing" or "imperializing" these countries. If you had any knowledge of foreign policy in regards to superpowers such as USA/UK then you wouldn't be talking. You honestly think the troops (from ANY country) want to be in Iraq/Afghanistan fighting when they could be home with their families? This is not something that is being shaded "wealth and opportunity" resides in these countries.

I agree with Aamir Khan that Mngal Pandey is not only about the freedom struggle but represents the will to acquire freedom from injustice in any sphere of life. It pertains to child labour, haressment for dowry, expoiltation of employees etc. It gives us the inspiration tof ight against all kinds of injustice and that if we want we can surely overthrow the people who expoilt us........it's just that one spark that is needed to start the fire !

What's wrong?

Even if they were being colonisers, what's wrong with colonising a bunch of people who don't know how to govern themselves? That not only makes the rest of the world safe from them, but also makes them safe from themselves.

Yeah, what's wrong with having a bunch of dirty barbarians come on over, squat on your land, steal your property, desecrate your historical monuments, create famines and enslave (when not killing) your countrymen? Oh yeah - let's not forget the gift of precious diseases - like small pox and syphilis (Africans and Native Americans just can't stop being grateful for those!).
