Quite plainly, Saif's acting was good in Hum Tum but certainly not a National Award's worth.For that matter i tink Shahrukh Khan performed much much better in Swades.Frankly no idea about other contenders.
I have seen the movie. If Saif can get a National Award for this film ????- i am now convinced that the entire thing is rigged. it is a sad day for the cinema industry.
Looks like National awards also turned to popular awards. Giving best actor award to Saif for Hum Tum is the last thing u can expect from the Jury headed by Sudhir Mishra. From the performance point of view there were tons better than him. Saif ali Khan getting better huh.... sure he is getting better in Joker Roles.

Sharmila was not there when Saif started off to pursue his acting career.. when he got married to older amrita... or when he got seperated after two kids...!!
i think sharmila must be working much harder to get her husband out of the alledged black buck hunting case rather than National Award lobbying for Saif.
I feel shah Rukh has more infulence at the centre because of his Gandhi family links... why didnt he got the awards for much critically aclaimed swades.
I wonder how the jury members missed Shahrukh Khan's performance in "Swades" - unanimously accepted as much more genuine and sincere performance than Saif's in "Hum Tum". Moreover, according to Preeti Sagar, Saif had done a wonderful job in the film and it was not necessary to give an award to a 'heavy' performance all the time. "We tried to be different this time," she said. I understand that jury members change, but surprisingly why this thought never came up in the year 2001 when Aamir Khan gave class performances in "Dil Chahta Hai" and "Lagaan"... Inspite of commendable work some actors and actresses miss out on such prestigious awards due to enigmatic reasons / circumstances !
this is ridiculous, sagar's words are sounding like, national awards are mainly for hindi films and the jury team is so generous to give the awards for non hindi films too. God knows, when are you guys going to see things as indian cinema rather than hindi cinema.
