i have abroader view on sholay. I believe it can never be remade.however if at all Ramu (who I believe is somewhat maverick with movies)decides to make it again the following should be the star cast.
Veeru -- Salman Khan
Jai -- Abhishek Bachchan
Basanti -- Ashvarya Rai
Thakur -- Ajay Devgan
Gabbar -- Sushant Singh
Jailor -- Anupam Kher
Thakur's daughteer in Law-- Rani Mukhrjee
Sambha -- Raj Pal Yadav
However for change the role of Gabbar is a tie between Paresh Rawal and Sushant singh still Sushant is Ramu's favourite.
I can imagine Madhuri Dixit in place of Jaya Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee in place of Hema Malini. And if Madhuri is not working then I cannot think of anyone else but Tabu in her place. Both Madhuri and Tabu have the ability to potray a character just with their eyes. Rani is just too good and can play Basanti with elan.
As far as the male lead is concerned then Amitabh Vachchan can be replaced successfully enough by his son Abhishek because he has the depth of his father. It can also be Hritwik Roshan or John Abraham. BUt my first choice would definitely be Abhishek beacuse I feel he can display the nuances of the character very well. Govinda can very well replace Dharmendra JI but the age difference between him and Abhishek is a big factor. I cannot find anyone else who can do good commedy other than Govinda.
And finally Gabbar Singh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no one in the industry today who can succesfully play the charater of Gabbar. Amjad Khan was simply outstanding and just has no replacement. This is going to be tough for you Ramu Ji.
Anyways best of luck. Waiting to watch the remake of an all time great movie in the history of India cinema.
i think Jai Shld be Shah Rukh Khan, Veeru Be Aamir Khan, Basanti be Juhi Chawla, Thakur's daughter be Rani Mukherjee so it becomes a SRK-Rani and Aamir-Juhi combo Thakur shld be played by Amitab Bacchan, Gabbar Singh by Gulshan Grover and Asrani's role by Salman Khan
Very Stupid Idea to remake Sholay. Definetly the movie wld flop even if it has Amitabh again... No one can replace Gabbar... Guess Ram has ran out of Stories, then take a vacation, don't kills us...

If i cast neone except abhishek bachhan for jai people will kill me.So Junior AB for Jai. Veeru needs to be funny and strong both convincingly.So i go for Salman as Veeru. N id love to see the chemistry btw abhishek and salman Thakur was a amazin performace so y not take a perfect performance and cast The BIG B himself as Thakur.
