I dont understand all the hype that surrounds the movie. Spielberg is losing his touch. The last great movie he made was ET and that was decades ago. Hollwood is gettin dumber and dumber by the year.

Movie too short
by sidsoftguy on Jul 19, 2005 12:22 AM

The problem with this movie is that it is too short to explain everything. It could be have been made into a better movie if it was done in sequels.Like these days hollywood sequels are doing great.May be a sequel will make it more narative. For me its just a masala movie but from hollywood

What a stupid review!!
by Shiamak on Jul 14, 2005 09:24 PM

Seriously, does the reviewer even know what crap he has written??? And fer GODS sake STOP comparing BOLLYWOOD & HOLLYWOOD... Bollywood has not reached as far as Hollywood though there are some very good actors..

But I think many times Bollywood bashing IS EXTREMELY RIGHT.. coz there have been some reeeeeeeely stupid movies..

And r u comparing Steven with a HINDI director??!!#$%$
GOOD JOKE..

This is 1 of the best movies that has ever been taken so far and Morgan's speech was not IRRITATING..

I think Rediff must never take such reviewer who bashes such brilliant movies..

Tom Cruise was magnificent and so were Dakota Fanning and Chapman and others... And Cruise had ta kill the person giving him shelter or else that insane person cud have killed him and his daughter..He had to save his daughter..

The whole movie was from the perspective of Ray Ferrier ( Cruise ) and his journey to save his kids..

If u criticize this movie I think u might as well sit in ur house, watch the movie on DVD and keep ur stupid ideas to urself..

A reviewer is supposed to just report a movie not suggest whether to watch or not..

I think u r the worst reviewer EVER..very bad Rediff

if you had read the book then you would realise that the words morgan freeman speaks are taken directly from it.

Aristo
Read the Novel and then talk!!!
by Aristo on Jul 06, 2005 08:19 PM

No. 1: The "irritating" narration by Morgan Freeman is word for word the first and last paragraphs of the novel by HG Wells, which the reviewer have OBVIOUSLY not taken the time to even browse through!!!

No. 2: Yes, if u think about it, there are many loose ends if u consider the superiority of the Aliens, for example, no thermal imaging for the probe looking in the hideout. But remember that the novel was written in 1898 when the "canals" on mars where just discovered and we didnt know that flight was even possible!!! If u cant count, that is a 107 years ago! Steven did the best he could, which was a daring move. Yes, Steven had to change it to an american context (the novel is written in the british context) so that is more relevant to the intended audience.

No. 3: It was SO not a So-So movie! It was one of the most gripping movies ever, that i was so involved into it, that i was wondering where i was when the intermission message and lihts turned on! Yes, the movie ended rather abruptly, and i was dissapointed coz i wanted more, but i guess that it was that cliche part of me that wanted to see the hero save the day.

1 thing though: working handycam after EMP?

people need to become more intelligent
by dave on Jul 06, 2005 01:16 PM

i just read a post that said "the title is misleading" ....how is it misleading ? if some of u would have peeked ur head up outta the hole u been hiding it in for who knows how long u would know that the original novel was told from a first person perspective, just like the movie is essentially told from tom cruises characters perspective. we;re not meant to see the whole war, just what this family sees as it flees from nj and tries to get to boston, where the mother is. if u want to see more go dig out your ID4 dvd and watch it for the millionith time. its impossible to make a remake without using the original title...although there is a "poseiden adventure" remake coming out that is being renamed simply "poseiden".... as for the numerous comments about the tripods being hidden in the earth, no one actually knows how far down they were buried, so it is possible they were overlooked...if they would have used the original concept of hundreds of meteorites falling from the sky, i think in the modern world that would have casued a lot of panic and we prob wouldnt have given them the chance to unscrew the lids and start blasting us...more of a surprise to pop up and start blasting
