Really!!

Man first take a deep look at your own freaken awards before you pick on oscars, at least most of those actors did act well in those films, most films were well directed and had orginal screenplays. If not the best, they were actually good. All indian awards are always undeserved they always go to the movie which makes the most money, regardless of it being a total crap when it comes to screenplay, acting, or direction. How many times did they give awards to smaller budget movies like Teen deewaren, when was the last time you gave best actor awards to the likes of Naseerudeen Shah, Paresh Rawal and Nana Patekar. In fact when Amir or Ajay Devgan deserved it you gave it to Sharukh and when Sharukh deserved it you gave it to Hrithik. Yash Raj and Johar movies always win it, even if they make the same story over and over. So write an article about that first, then point fingers to someone else.

Good One!

I agree that Kate Winslet , Annete Bening were extreamly good and deserved it better than the baby.I thought Swank did justice to the role , but oscar is for best performances remember...And what about Foxx...i was hoping that atleast the academy wl stop the foxx hype and give it to Leo or Depp..Amongst the actor categories, i shd say only blanchett deserved her award..

What is ''best'' for you Mr.Sen?
by Sirisha on Mar 01, 2005 04:38 PM

What I feel is best for you is to restrain yourself from writing such utterly contradicting statements in your own article. You clamour that small budget and independent films are ignored and then you go on to say that the supporting actor, lead actor and the director awards should have gone to "The Aviator".Did you even see MDB or are you one of those lot who clamour for attention sake? By the way you have disregared two of the most talented actors ,Morgan Freeman and Al Pacino in one sentence and you call their acting "generic". Hope you have looked up "generic" in the Oxford english dictionary. Such utterly biased persons as you should refrain from journalism. Please present facts and if you have a brain some useful comments not such jaded opinions.

Kolkata again !!
by Sujoy Ghosh on Mar 01, 2005 03:23 PM

It is Kolkata again in film awards. It is high time that producers in India & world over see it as a destination for making films. One thing for sure that they will get is quality. I'm certain that they'll not be disappointed & public will have the opportunity to view some good films.

Speak for yourself, Mr. Sen
by VishyWashy on Mar 01, 2005 11:50 AM

An extremely biased and opinionated piece (as usual) which I am sure does not reflect the views of other Oscar viewers. So please do not honor your comments with "we" or "our". I for one have very few complaints with this year's choices. The very fact that you called Hilary Swank's heartbreaking performance in Million Dollar Baby the least deserving Best Actress alone indicates the stupidity of this article.

by sam on Mar 01, 2005 10:39 AM  | Hide replies

i would agree to a certain extent with the writer of this column .but lemme tell u if u really want to see blunders come have a look at indian filmfare awards.in terms of sheer acting charisma do u really think sharukh's performance was evn close to the big b's performance in khakee or leave even big b evn close enough to pankaj kapoor's or irfan khans performance in maqbool.to give u fact tabu won all the awards for bst actress for chandni bar that year except filmfare.sanjay dutt won all the awards for best actor for vaastav except filmfare. !!

need i say more

I guess u should first check out your facts. Do you know something known as the critic awards exists? The critic award for the best actor was given to Pankaj Kapur for Maqbool. And Sanjay Dutt had won the best actor award in Filmfare for Vastav. After so long the Filmfare awards seem to be fair this year and didn't just give all the awards to the expected movies(eg.Veer..) this time. Shahrukh did deserve an award for Swades and not for the other 2 nominations which he had & he got an award for Swades.
