Whether Dattani's Morning Raaga makes it or not, but the author of this article seems to have taken things too personally. A biased article like this from Rediff???
i am simply amazed at what seems to be a cent per cent effort on the part of aseem chhabra to run down morning raaga and mahesh dattani. now how does it matter to mr chhabra whether dattani has sent audio-video tracks and whether he will be able to arrange for publicity et al? it is none of his business. a columnist should be objective which your mr chhabra is certainly not. i am sure mahesh dattani, like scores of other indians ,is purely unanware of certain facts regarding entry into the oscar race, but why hold it against the poor guy? i am sure if his movie is liked then it might stand a chance otherwise it won't. i am also certain that the movie made by dattani was miles ahead in quality to the trash that we usually get to see in the so called cross over movies and india-made english movies. at least dattani tried to actually integrate the carnatic milieu with the english speaking youth of india. the result, though, not mind blowing, was worth a watch.it was almost as if your columnist just wanted to show off all his knowledge about the oscars and in the bargain ran shri dattani down.
i have watched morning raga. its much batter than anyother bollywood movies except 'black'. it deserves to be selected for Oscars as an indian entry. 'paheli' is just nothing compared to 'morning raga'. but "black" shud have been our entry.
Aseem Chabra is barking up the wrong tree when he belittles Morning Raga's Oscar recognition. Despite his comments about Dattani, it is no denying that it is a superb blend of traditional and current India. It is a daring feat of gifted artists and not just Shabana Ajmi as well as a welcome departure from the usual Bollywood masala and Khan drenched trivia, which gets so much space in Rediff and India Abroad. All the best for Morning Raga!
