Mangal pandey

I agree with the review. I am a huge fan of Aamir and expect nothing but the best from him. But Mangal Pandey after starving us for more than 4 years, was not at all worth the wait and the hulla surrounding it.

Anyways it was good that Rang de Basanti followed soon after and Aamir did not have much to loose.

But please Aamir, I request u to take care in future, do not sign such films just for the heck of it

Vindictive Review
by Yasir Ali on Jan 08, 2006 08:09 PM

Its a vindictive review, with little objective basis. The first half was quite gripping in fact, with some extremely well-researched scenes. Till the time Mangal remains a somwhat troubled man, blinding trusting his English friend, movie slowly capturing the cadences of the time, it is gripping. Even when he feels betrayed, he is still worried about his loss of caste. It is only in the second half that the movie falters and loses the grip. This is when Mangal Pandey suddenly realizes the ills of untouchability, has a miraculous turnaround of his heart, and becomes a nationalist rebel. Not convincing, the movie fails over there. But nevertheless, a very difficult movie to make.

But the way, Mr. Sen goes on and on about its faults, its rather vain. "Historical" movies, in themselves, are a myth. Even Ray's Shatranj ke Kiladi mauled Premchand's story. Attenborough's Gandhi reduced the Indian Freedom Struggle to a simplified one man's crusade against an empire. But they worked. Mangal Pandey doesnt. And it has nothing to do with the historical inaccuracies in it. The kind of autopsy that Raja Sen does is self-fulfilling, and akin to a stupidity, which is not new to movie critics.

raja sen's disaster
by Nadesi on Jan 08, 2006 02:11 AM

Movie is amazing!!!! Everyone must see it!
Aamir Khan look gorgeous with long hair.
Raja Sen: you must apologize for your article and retire immidietly, you bring disgrace to all \"journalism\". It\'s because your shameless \"writing\" Aamir does not want even to talk to journalists or give interwiew. Did you make any movie? Did you act in any movie? Show us something you did! You are jelous to Aamir fame and love he earned from people. It\'s okay, but keep it inside, don\'t show it to everyone. There is only few excellent actors, not everyone can be the one, what to do?

Stop Writing Mr. Sen
by Indranil Mitra on Dec 27, 2005 02:33 PM

Mr. Sen,

Just for record, I think that u can bring in a thousand SRks but u only have one Amir Khan.. Movies are made by producers and directors, but I have seen Amir always doing justice to his roles.. Whether he is a villager in Laagaan or a funky guy in Dil Chahta Hai, a cop in Sarfarosh or a student in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander.. But for *** like u (r'nt there a lot like Mr. Sen in India???), not once has he been recognised and always SRK gets the accolade for all his pathetic work (I am very sure SRK has a huge lobby with like minded ppl like Raja Sen).. Imagine Paheli going to the Oscars.. Are we a matured country to send such a film?? But Mr. Sen will say that is The Movie.. SO here we are waiting for the foreigners to laugh at us.. Mr. Sen and his foolish clan will always make us the laughing stock in India or abroad.. The same is with Laloo, Deve Gowda, Meerut Police, etc etc.. As long as these do not stop, we can never move forward..

Disaster

Its disaterous movie. The film does not have a single punch line and Mangal Pandey in any case is not leader. The film tries to depict him as a leader. The movie does not hold the audience at any time as no touchy scenes. The overall movie is not directed properly. Aamir fails in this film.

100 people - 100 views...all right. But can't really agree to Mr. Sen, inspite of few real convincing points...
