A simple story amazingly executed by Nagesh Kukonoor and humour is weaved with the story extremely beautiflly throughout the movie. All the characters are so well-chosen and have given brilliant performances.
This is one of the best movies I have seen in the last few years! Its a relief to see such a clean and honest film amidst other 'item-number' kind of films.
Whether you like cricket or not, you will love the movie Iqbal!!!
first of all its to be understood tht review is nt abt telling the story of the movie.. it should giv insight into the mov + describe the strong points and failures.. describing story is just useless.. its should not be called review
The luv and affection in the family shown it really touches heart... The one thing i felt throught out the movie... Kkaaashh mera bhi waisa ek behen hota..
Hello everyone - As expected Nagesh Kukunnur is simply brilliant in his direction. This guy is great juggler of human emotions, amazing storyteller, and uniquely creative in his cinema making. As the review says this movie is more than cricket. There is dream, realistic and picturesque countryside location, simplicity in acting, touching and sometime extremely energetic music. I wonder what would Nagesh do 5 years from now...BOLLYWOOD fame-crazy artists please watch Nagesh as he is setting new standards in cinema making without any fuss and without throwing money for unnecessary masala. Lastly I believe current Indian team should repeatedly watch this movie to get some inspiration.
an amazing movie.. Director has done a terriffic job... kept the audience involved in the movie through out. shweta prasad & naseeruddin shah's performance are simply classic.. Thanks to the producer who did a good job in taking a project like this, not many would have done it.
i think this movie have somthing differnt quality bcz when u watch u feel that how person can be passionate abt cricket. good direction nice story mindblowing presntation
The most unintelligent review, ever read with the film story being described fully and no insight whatever into the plus or minueses of the film.Very unfair review to a lovely and honest movie.
I've seen Shreyas Talpade in Marathi movies and many TV-serials but this one is special. (how many will remember a "tea seller at railway sattion "in Ankhen starring Amitabh... DO you? ). Movie is very reallistic. He has a great carrier ahead of himself. "Hardik Abhinandan" Shreyas (Congrates in Marathi to Shreyas) aka Dhana from "Bedhund Manachi Lahar".... All the Best
I think Iqbal is a great film. I just have two problems with it.
A) Hiding the fact that you are practicing some sport from your parents works in London (of Bend it like Beckham), since cities lend a certain anonymity to people. It doesn't in a village. The whole village would have known that Iqbal was practicing cricket the very first day and passed on the message to his father. Iqbal's getting away with it defies logic.
B) The fact that the character is deaf and dumb was not addressed at all in the film. His handicap doesn't stop him from joining a cricket academy, it isn't the reason why he is thrown out. Iqbal might be comfortable with his handicap but how come his teammates are equally unfazed by it (cricket isn't a team game for no reason).
The film seems to work in curiousl isolation.
If there are any obstacles at all in his way, it is his social class. If Iqbal hadn't been deaf-n-dumb, it wouldn't have made any difference to the storyline. So why was he deaf-n-dumb?
I suppose, I am carping. I just feel that a reviewer shouldn't be so swayed by emotions or lose track of logic.

there are flaws..true..but are they so fundamental...If he was not deaf and dumb would he end up grazing buffaloes?...would he have the whole day to practise cricket...?if he was not dumb would he have the passion to speak (through cricket) and if he was not deaf, would he have the passion to hear (the thundering applause in a cricket stadium)..and finally would you see the brilliant performance by his sister if her brother could manage it all himself?..Iqbal is not about cricket...It's about dreaming and chasing your dreams against all odds...remember some are told what to be...but some find it themselves and there's no stopping them...
