The collections of Mangal Pandey are not just phenomenal, theyre mind-boggling. It is a never before hit on the Indian scene. The biggest hit so far ever has been Veer Zaara. This is way ahead. And whats even more remarkable is that it is released with 1000 prints worldwide, with higher ticket rates and with an almost double the number of shows daily and is still going to packed capacity. We cannot even begin to imagine the collections; and its increasing by word of mouth with the collections growing. It is the greatest grosser ever. And even bigger in the UK and USA. Those talking of mixed reactions are the usual industry people for whom all movies are mixed.
-Taran Adarsh, Trade Analyst

Its got an earth shattering response across the country. Never seen before ever in history of Indian cinema. With the same response abroad. Bombay, it collected 56 lakhs on first day vis a vis the previous biggest Veera Zaara which had 32 lakhs. And its getting stronger at 100% collections every day.
-Bobby Bedi Producer, The Rising

The kind of collections its getting across the country have to be seen to be believed and its growing with word of mouth. Even in a non-Bollywood centre like Goa, its running to 100% capacity with demands to increase shows.
-Deepak Srivastav, GM, INOX Goa

Ive handled films like Lagaan and even Titanic in India and the overall monies put into promotions were 3-4 crores. Mangal Panday has already got a 9.5 crore value from media and sponsors and people are still enquiring, regarding block bookings too. Its a historical, and its writing history!

'Mangal Pandey' Storms U.S.A., U.K., Australia
The verdict is loud and clear: MANGAL PANDEY - THE RISING has stormed the Overseas box-office charts and emerged a success story. The historical has had an extensive release -- 63 screens in U.S.A. and 73 screens in U.K. -- clearly indicating that the market for a keenly anticipated Hindi film has grown in Overseas over the years.
In the U.S., MANGAL PANDEY - THE RISING is off to an electrifying start, crossing the half-a-million mark in its first three days itself, which is huge. Its opening is not as aggressive in U.K., although the film has proved to be the biggest opener for Bollywood this year, besides featuring in the 'Top 10' charts this weekend.
To sum up, the first 3 days gross of MANGAL PANDEY - THE RISING from these two markets [U.S., U.K.] alone has crossed the magical figure of Rs. 4 crores.
And this is for all the cynics who felt that the opening weekend of MANGAL PANDEY - THE RISING wouldn't be better than LAGAAN: Aamir's latest movie has had a much bigger opening than LAGAAN in these two markets, in terms of numbers. The opening weekend of LAGAAN in U.S.A. was $ 285,368 and in U.K. £ 91,281.

Mangal Pandey and all that . .

Fall of "The Rising" in such places is quite expected. Despite a good film technically, the lyrics and songs were ordinary and extraneous. barring the tilte song which had a catchy tune, I wonder if Javed Akhtar also understands what he wrote in the lyrics.

Overall, Amir was great saviour! He was wonderful.
