true for the most part
by Paushali Barman on Jan 23, 2015 05:31 PM

i agree on most counts. and also i failed to understand why pinky felt responsible for what her drunken father did to the accident victims when she is equally an innocent "victim". while many parts seemed just contrived viz. the 20(!!) yr long effect of loss & mourning on everyone remotely associated with the calamity, the implied humour of annapurna,... one cannot but help notice that everyone is trying to be sincerely deep for their written characters that sadly are not.
lastly, while i myself cannot agree with pigeonholing all guitarists, certain trends can definitely be mused upon in writing for such is the art. the comments until now sadly cannot put this in clear terms; so deluded are they about what is clear, crisp english. after all, queens english is not about unwanted sophistication & elitism, while the peasants english is not merely any string of words.

A different review

I completely disagree....'Morning raga' was refreshing for how subdued and understated it was in this day and age of loud, flashy cinema. The plotline was simple, not unnecessarily loaded with inane baggage. The music was nice too and yet basic enough to appeal to a wide cross-section of the audience. Finally the characters were thoughtfully and tastefully portrayed. All in all, a good movie.

very nice movie... watch it for yourself
by rush on Oct 30, 2004 09:32 PM

i think it was a very nice film with a lot of fresh energy. rajiv menon stands out with his trademark spectacular photography and great lighting, creating a pleasant viewing experience. the actors have done a great job and the film leaves an unmistakenly nice taste. though the story has some cliches and some lost opportunities (like educating the audience a bit about carnatic music), i would definately recommend it... happy to see indian cinema take its own path and evolving into something more relevant!

Some facts about guitarists
by Nitin on Oct 29, 2004 09:40 PM

Dear Raja Sen,
comments on your review: "Guitarists are dweebs".
Some-eye openers for you:
->Bob Geldof, leader of the Boomtown Rats, inspired by a documentary on starving Ethiopian children, donated 80 million dollars to starving Ethiopian children . In 1985, he organized two enormous Live Aid concerts, and donated the proceeds to charity. As a result, Geldof received a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. He was also knighted.
->Bono, the front-man of U2, is activley involved in peace causes and one morning you may find in ur morning newspaper his nomination for nobel peace prize.
->"Square rocker" Eric Clapton lost his 4-yr old son from the 53rd floor. The after-trauma (which I am sure does not bring him any close to being a "square") is easily imagined.
->Just because a bunch of ppl decided to rub the truth in the face of the society hasrshly through their music, it does not give you the right to label them as "dweebs" or "square".
->Some of them are a little too loud about their sound being heard but this does not entitle you to generalise the whole bunch.
Hope that convinces you to think a bit. So learn to appreciate their gifts both in music or otherwise.
-Nitin

Boring
by Sameer on Oct 29, 2004 08:23 PM

Why the hell should a movie review be so complicated and cryptic? Can't it be written in simpler words? This review is very boring and does not help in making a sound judgement about the movie.
