vaastu shaastra didn't kill me
by jess on Nov 07, 2004 04:32 AM

geez! i saw this movie just because of RGV's warning'if bhoot scared you, this will kill you'. First of all the movie is a crappy version of stephen king's the shining, and the ghosts' pale faces are inspired by those of the japanese horror flick, ju won-the grudge. What's the deal Ramu, copying movies and makeup and presenting to us with a silly warning, i hope its not the same for your next project which is called 'chudail'.

Vaastu Shaastra...conclusion

The ghosts, who remain invisible to human eyes otherwise, make an appearance once they get a few substitutes - extra ghosts accumulated in the due course.

The occasional zooming of the banyan tree outside the house kindles a spark of curiosity until the end when the mystery growing around it is unraveled. The tree catches fire due to an accident, when Sushmita Sen's car crashes into it. As the tree burns, each fielder disintegrates into thin air.

So the moral of the story is, if you are moving into a new house and you have a banyan tree outside it and even though the house is Vaasthu compliant, please do not ignore - straight away burn it to avoid the chances of being haunted. It is not only enough if the wife alone goes out to work. If you are married and have kids, make sure they also go to school. Otherwise, they might end up making bad friends at home - the invisible spirits. One precautionary advice - If you observe your child talking to himself/herself, please do not think the child is insane. It means your house is being haunted.

Vaasthu Shaastra, the occult science - To believe or not to believe, that is the question.
Watch out for part two!!

These are some more examples of a script that suffers from malnutrition.

The prime character in the movie is actually a tennis ball which is supposedly maneuvered by Sushmita Sen's son and his look alike ghost (don't ask the logic behind this) alternatively. They take turns in playing with the ball - actually the son Seldom plays with the ball. But his partner (the replica ghost) uses it to kill people. This is where Vaasthu Shaastra beats modern science - not all objects come under the influence of gravity. There are quite a few objects like the tennis ball that defy gravity, especially when they are being handled by ghosts! The killing of people by the ghosts seems like an epidemic - The concept of nuclear chain-reaction is well exploited here; Ghost kills a human being the human being becomes a ghost - The latest Ghost kills another human being, and the process continues till the last frame, where there are enough numbers of ghosts to form a cricket team! Only the rules are slightly different in this ghostly game - They use a tennis ball and a baseball stick and the hero (before becoming a ghost) will beat the ghosts white and white! ......TO BE CONCLUDED

Though the so called eerie effect in the background score that sounds like a glass break seems to be an intended cacophony, it is more of an irritation. The audiences seem to frown each time the glass breaks and the impact adds misery to the already tarnished screenplay! Sometimes I even wondered if there were real ghosts on the sets while shooting the film, trying to break the camera lens each time a pathetic scene was shot! If something was true in the movie, I would bet a fortune on this! The rustic man who keeps chasing Sushmita Sen all the time trying to tell her that there is a problem with the house, has done a good job but the question is who at all is this guy ? How does he always come from nowhere? He seems to be projected as mentally challenged for no reason, though he is actually not. It seems like this man is in a shock -Is it because he knows that evil spirits dwell in that house or was he an ex-resident of the house and that his family was destroyed by the ghosts? Then how come he alone was spared? I suppose he was the director's best friend! And the biggest mystery is why this guy always keeps circling around the area where the house is located - TO BE CONTINUED

The very title of the movie is deceiving. When I watched the trailor on TV, I started thinking that the story revolves around a small family who shift to a new house where they face problems because of the evil forces in the house. Obviously, they have failed to check if the house was Vaasthu Compliant. Hold on! if you had also thought the same way, well unfortunately you are mistaken ! The second scene in the movie clarifies this point when Sushmita Sen tells her husband that the house is facing East and that it is built as per Vaasthu. But then what is the reason for so much of confusion? Why are the ghosts crowding at the house for no reason trying to harm every human being? Is it because of the very reason that they are evil? And even if they were good before death, why should their spirits become evil the moment they die? If the director is trying to say that the spirits are taking revenge, can someone who has seen the movie tell me for what reason? Why should the ghost of Sushmita Sen's husband who was trying to save his family from the evil forces while he was alive, try to kill his own wife and son in the end ? These are only a few loose ends of the many. TO BE CONTINUED...

Vaastu Shaastra ...What's in a name ?
by Guruprasad.R on Nov 03, 2004 11:11 AM

When you hear the name Vaasthu Shaastra, it triggers a sense of well being and a feeling of happy living. This ancient science always existed but has suddenly picked up it's pace in the recent days. Vaasthu Shaastra is the latest Mantra for the ambitious common man, who aspires to build a dream home. This buzz word is also catching up with the elite class of the Indian society and no wonder it has reached the ears of Ram Gopal Varma !

Yes, we are talking about the latest offering from Ram Gopal Varma - Vaasthu Shaastra. Though this gentleman is not the director of the movie, am sure he would have given atleast the finishing touches in the film -This is where the movie ends and the script commits suicide ! True, the very word Vaasthu Shaastra brings tranquility - But only till you watch the movie. Not that the movie is too eerie to watch, but people get confused about the concept. The trailor of the movie keeps the viewer guessing the story. This curiousity is carried forward to the cinema hall. It continues beyond the intermission and suddenly you realise that the movie has ended - atlast !

It's a rip-off!
by Sumita on Oct 14, 2004 07:38 PM

Around 8 months ago, HBO showed a month of Japanese Horror films. One film called 'Ju Won' was particularly creepy. The pale ghost of the boy in Vaastu Shastra has been directly lifted from Ju Won. Shame on you Ramu! There are so many good writers of horror in India...and you treat us to some 'inspired' crap...what next? A copy of the 'Ring'?
