be Fair - Ash is good
by Mathew Thannimoottil on Oct 13, 2004 05:39 PM

I am no great fan of Aishwarya, but quite recently she has been doing good with performances in Choker Bali which ensured that she was one of the two (the other being Meera Jasmine) who was considered for the coveted National Film Award for Best Actress. Though you dismiss her performance in Bride & Prejudice, one of the UK's most revered film critic Mr. Chris Tookey (see www.christookey.com) writes:

"Once every decade or so, a movie comes along that establishes a new female superstar. Breakfast at Tiffanys did it for Audrey Hepburn. Pretty Woman launched Julia Roberts. Bride and Prejudice deserves to do the same for Aishwara Rai. She is the most luminous beauty to grace our screens in years. Already the biggest female star in India, this performance suggests she has a real chance to become the first Bollywood actress to conquer the world. Not only is she a highly accomplished comedienne and a more than passable singer-dancer; the camera loves her, no matter how she arranges her features."

Aish is so beautiful
by mini on Oct 13, 2004 02:25 PM  | Hide replies

Before commenting about the film, I would like to say that Aish is the really beautiful one to bring pride and honour to home country. We would like to see the movie soon in our home country. Aish is going young and still young and beautiful. And forgot to say Aish is a very good performer, she expresses everything so naturally.

ash will go a long way
by akshay on Oct 13, 2004 11:34 AM

u guys aren't well informed ,it seems!it needn't be told that ash is extremely beautiful.but i have read many uk reviews that have praised ash's performance. they called her elegant and a fine indian actress. isn't that a pride for all of us. and if this movie grosses $10 million which is equivalent to Rs 45 crores nearly it is already a hit since its cost is Rs 25 crore. As far as Ash's international movie career is concerned it depends on when and how she gets substantial roles devoid of exposing and all that stuff. for the time being she is the most sought after actress in india and she's also signed chadha's next The Mistress Of Spices. Finally she's the most successful indian star actor ever.

Why media hates Ash
by lgaur on Oct 12, 2004 09:54 PM

It is so strange to see Indian critics itching to see Rai fail in her projects. I remember a long time ago when Sridevi and Madhuri were the brilliant stars -- they got truck loads of crap. When they withdrew from limelight on their own terms the same media is talking about their brilliance now. Same thing can be said about Rekha. I guess light travels slower than we think it does.

THE WRITER CAN'T READ
by ranjit on Oct 12, 2004 05:27 PM

This writer can't even read the variety article...shark tale is no. 1 in America while Bride and prejudice is no. 1 in England. Also, bend it made 2 million $ which is almost the same as what bride has made.
this writer shouldnt be a film critic if he doesnt know which movies are released in which country...
