Born into Brothels is not an Indian film; Its by Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman, who are American citizens. Its just that the film is based and filmed in Kolkota, which dosen't make it an Indian film, just like any bollywood thriller shot at some fancy location abroad dosent make it a european or american film!!!
Hi, If the writer ,reporter or editor of this article is reading it ,I would like to bring it to his notice that there is nothing to be proud of such a movie. We should instead try and learn something out of this documentary ,only beacuse a documentary featuring some Indians wins an Oscar does not makes me proud. If it had been about some good thing about our country ,its great but dont you feel that one should better understand the plight of those children who are born and brought up in brothels.Make sure next time if you are writing such an article do mention about the poor state of affairs and what steps should the govt. should take . Just dont brag that an Indian film is getting an Oscar when the subject itself is such that every Indian should be ashamed of.
excellent report. i clicked on the link with a zero info level on the subject, and now i think i know quite a lot. if only everything else was like this!
The title of the article "Indian film in line for Oscars" doesn't seem right. I don't mean to indulge in hair-splitting, but I think journalists should make a disctinction between an "Indian film" and "a film about/on India". (By the way, it is a documentary, not a film, but I let that pass).
