Naach and my thoughts
by rajab on Nov 12, 2004 12:07 PM  | Hide replies

RGV once again excels. Mani Sir just watch out. But there is one serious problem with RGV movies. However amazing his films, the music seems to be letting down once too often. Either he needs to work with Rahman again for find some one like Sandeep Chowta.

Cant understand the review
by suraj on Nov 12, 2004 11:58 AM

I can't understand whether you are complimenting Antara or critcizing her. Your opinion on Antara is the height of ambiguity. And i wonder how Abhishek would look if he loses whatever fat he has - like a pole? come on . He is a man and men don't need to look like Skinny female models!

Naach

Hi,
The review of Naach seem to be of a lousy film. Why can't our film-makers give us some entertaining stuff if they want to release their films during Diwali.
Why such serious stuff and for whom? Like Rangeela was quite an entertaining film.

on rujata's whim and fancies

One would expect a "film-critic" to stick to her job and not make any statements which clearly are not her area of expertize. In this review I fail to understand what rujata is endorsing or what is she trying to support.

If she thinks having pre-martial sex, renting an apartment, smoking cigarettes are indcators of women liberation, I only pity her stereo-typical mindset. Those who go ga-ga on western lifestyle do not possess an eye to see virtues of indian lifestyle.

I agree Subhash Ghai's movies are loud and over-sentimental but is our critic overlooking (or does not have ability to appreciate) strength aish or mahima had in those movies.

I seriously recommend Rediff to not to allow critics who are so occupied with idea of being "cool" and "preogressive" that they associate cigerette smoking with women power and freedom.

RE:on rujata's reviews

i think it is important to view films keeping in mind the larger context. rujata's reviews ALWAYS do that. he/she has reviewed naach keeping in mind the rubbish that is produced in bollywood.

i don't think rujata is endorsing or critizing ciggratte smoking, premarital sex and so on...but merely stating that rgv's women characters are unconventional and different. the review read: rmgv's heroines 'appear' to break the rules. quote-unquote 'appear'. no where is it mentioned that such acts are 'good'or 'bad'...progressive or shameful. and that's the best part.

unlike the shivsaniks... without taking a moral stand, i think it is a fantastic review that observes without being condescending.

mr/mrs rujata...i think ur review rocks! can you PLEASE do more reviews. how about some english movies as well, i love watching english movies.

grow up guys
if ppl did not associate cigarette smoking with cool ness none of u wd have tried ur first cigarette in college....
red and white peene waalo ki baat hi kucch aur hai...means what?

and if ramu wants to show a cool woman he is going to use all the images...he is not writing a novel he is makinmg a movie...

and who are u to decide what the indian woman should be like or not if the review writer is not in a position to decide that....
if u can't take a woman like reva (antara's name in the film) in ur life ....do not worry she won 't be exactly be dying to be with u either...
don't take it personbally...
just all of u who have problems like this ...pleasew atch indian women in ekta kapoor's serials who get up in the morning and plot revenges against all the relatives in teh family or who do nothing but cry cry and cry....u like that picturisation better....good for u

Hey! which century are you living in?!!! this is the new millenium. And as a woman of the new millenium, let me tell you that guys who have mindsets like you are the ones who perpetrate all sorts of crimes against women in the name of 'Indian values' which are patriarchal and archaic to say the least. Come out of the dark ages and rejoin the land of the living-if they will have you of course!

I don't understand single thing of reviewers what they want. It seems they all are pay roll if Yash chopra and with out doubt to give Vaar-Zaara a break.
could not find any way to compare urmila with Antara.
so stop review. before releasing movie

You are right Sanjana. Veer-Zaara is nothing but media hype. Naach is Much more intense. i watch here a Lady called Sujata Critsizing Antara in dirty way.
but this is the toughest roll she has perfomed which our so called glamor girls Rani, preity, kareena even can't imagine
.I seems indian media is busy to establish Veer-Zaara by din't of force. I don't care what Naach did to box office. At least Rgv has guts to do some thing honestly. If audience could not accept this is their dis credit. It's sinply Unvaling the indian Cinema. Fact the trend is Choreograph in bollywood means Farah khan though I understand less about dancing, direction means Chopra, Johar, Barjatiya who are very much typed with some mushy mushy love stories. No serious ness nothing else. but Lots of Good movies are neglected. Abhishek bachchan, Ram Gopal varma are real warrior who are fighting against this sytem. in Every shot of Naach, RGV poves his fighting with the life and against the system. If Veer-Zaara is so called Mega hit by Indian media but it's not at all an honest movie simply. Naach is always nearer to my heart and I treat one of the 5 best movies which i see in my whole life.

Regards
Tano

I agree, there was nothing similar between Antara's portrayal of Reva and Urmila of Rangeela. Both are such different characters. And Antara did an awesome job of it, just as Urmila did in Rangeela, that's the only similarity.

Yash Chopra is losing his touch. Veer-Zaara was pathetic in its relationship building...there was hardly any interaction shown between the two main characters...hence could not relate to the intense emotion that was supposed to be there!!!
