HOLLY WOOD SUCKS
by ritesh on May 31, 2004 06:33 AM

hollywood sucks. Indians are better than americans in every field. now it is the time for us to say what americans do is good or bad. not them to decide something about us. We have better looking guys and no doubt more beautiful girls than "americans".

Grow up now
by Prahlad on May 27, 2004 05:10 PM  | Hide replies

It has become a habit of sort for us to always look towards west for a word of praise/approval after whatever we do. And if they appreciate it we feel happy and if they condemn it or criticise it we too do so.
We dont understand one point that we two are completely different cultures and we have altogether different tastes. How can we like or dislike each others' creation.
This so-called film critics of indian cinema are pseudo westerner and they judge Indian movies with a western tounge.
Why can't we create our own identity based on our culture and taste and forget about westerners.
Grow up...

I absolutely concur with the views of others that why should we crave for the Oscar awards. They are simply just meant for those much hyped Western societies. It doesnt mean that these awards are the ultimate prize for actors/actresses worldwide just because these awards are hosted and presented in a well developed and rich nation. Our culture and heritage and tastes are entirely and diagonally different and opposite. If that is the case, then not a single hollywood or western actor would even come close or match the powerful performances of our Indian actors like N.T. Rama Rao (telugu actor) and Arun Govil (Lord Rama in Ramayan teleserial) in the mythological characters. It is high time, we should shun our parochial attitudes about the prowess of Western media and awards.

NY Times praises Yuva
by DEEPAK on May 27, 2004 02:11 PM

Who is need of praise from NY times? And how does it matter if they ignore or recognize? Hindi films are loved all over the world. We don't need to attach importance to the praise just because it is from a US newspaper.

Who cares if NYTimes praises... We don't need their praises.
by Decent on May 26, 2004 06:20 PM  | Hide replies

We're content. We shouldn't care for their (OSCAR) awards. Its their awards for their people, because, how can you say a performance by Kate Hudson is any better than a performance by Kamal Hassan in Hindustani etc.
Their taste is different. We don't need to crawl, beg or look-up to Hollywood as if they're better than us. They're not!

I agree with you 100%! Hell with the Oscars! Hell with the NY Times! We can be bigger and better than the West! We have a talent pool of ONE BILLION PEOPLE! Why are all of our stupid actors running to Hollywood? Why do we even bother sending in our movies to the Oscars? Why are we so eager to play the white man's games?
