YUVA
by Lokendra on May 27, 2004 01:26 PM

Though Yuva has a nice social message and characterization is good , the movie lacks one point which I think Mr. Ratnam has missed ... I think he forgot to show the view point of Youth (or the guys who became leaders and eventually MPs). In the end there is lost bashin and all but how did they won the heart of people is not shown, what were there agendas is not shown, Especially when vivek enter politics ...
I feel sometimes the story is kind of 'feel good 4 youth' where youth leaders snatch there victory by fighting themselves and taking law in there hand. Except for rani-abhishek story, No story was convincing...wht was the role of 2 ladies ..culdnot understand. They shuld have been the guys support or pillars and I wuld not have been surprised if one the ladies (youth) had fought in election and won. except the screenplay there was nuthin dissapointin in movie,WHich I think culd have easily been improved upon.I'll say worth watchin one time though.

Not an entertaining movie
by kudum shinde on May 26, 2004 11:36 PM

Well, the theme seems to be good pulling youngsters to politics. Ajay Devgan was excellent. But to be honest it's not an entertaining movie.

Good one

I would liko agree with Prem Panickers comment about how ayutha eluthu would fare.Sure the Hindi versions choice of stars was bad.AE has the right man for the right job.

Though the film doesn't have the impact of a Nayagan or Iruvar which ofcourse is also because of kamal and mohanlal AE sure is good one .Perhaps mani should have given his characters the freedom to express the emotions ..

Reviewer got it all wrong
by Vinay on May 26, 2004 04:40 PM

The reviewer got it all wrong. In fact not just this reviewer, but all reviewers across all major newspapers got it all wrong. Yuva is a fantastic movie made by a fantastic director. I guess if anybody has watched the movie, he/she will definitely vouch for the absolute requisite emotions, Mani was able to draw from the talented actors/actresses. Not to mention, the viewers did not feel that the movie was a male dominated one. Mani manages to integrate the social message with the commercial elements, at the same time, never losing focus from the screenplay. The effort put in by all the team members who made the film shows. Rahman's music takes the movie mood to a new level, as needed by the scenes or how the director wants to guide the viewer's emotions. The female characters in the movie absolutely fit the bill of an 'ideal' emotional counterpart to the male characters. Though the direction takes its inspiration from Ameros Perros, isnt it what movie making all about. Give credit where its due. To make my point from another angle, would anybody suggest a different way to make the movie with the same storyline... forget the actors, actresses or music. Mani, please keep it coming.

Nothing wrong
by Pradeep Niranjan on May 25, 2004 04:51 PM

I think what he want , what he intended as a message, he succeeded. It is a real good one, but who cares if there is no affairs and cheap love story. But he is really the MOVIEMAKER. Its is indeed direction of Mani Ratnam.
