Today's Yuva
by Aa on Jun 14, 2004 09:54 PM

I was left a little bewildered at the end of the movie. Did I like the movie? I have mixed feelings. I liked the movie in parts. My take on this movie was Mr. Ratnam has depicted todays Yuva from our Indian society. One who fights his way through poverty, the aspiring youth who dreams to go to America to make it big and the third one with ideologies to change the country from evil politicians. I also liked the way he introduced the characters, although I must say in between I was running out of patience. ARs music was pathetic and was not really required. Abhishek is turning out to be a good actor. The anger emoted in his eyes was brilliant. Devgan was himself and Vivek has still a long way to go. Rani, Esha and Kareena have done a good job. Om Puri and Rani were excellent! As for Mani Ratnam he has been allover the place with these three characters. Well I would just say it was different story and depiction wise from the usual. But Mr. Ratnam could have done better.

Why I loved YUVA(AyudhaEzuthu)
by DM on Jun 05, 2004 11:15 PM

A preliminary disclaimer to the readers- I have only watched the tamil version of YUVA i.e. Ayudha Ezuthu and I loved it.The movie is definitely different in its style and that can definitely leave viewers with a slight distaste from not being able to comprehend the plot working properly.

I liked the movie because

- The movie was slick and didnt waste time with meaningless dream song sequences, exquisite locales etc. Anything this conventional would not blend into the serious backdrop of the movie.

- The main characters (Inba and Mike) were portrayed extremely well.We have our very own beautiful mind played to the tee by Surya and Inba a cold hearted, unfeeling, unreasoning thug who does not see anything beyond his reasons.

- Sidharth's role of the cool teenage kid who is influenced by Mike to enter the political paradigm in India was convincing but probably sets into the movie a bit too quickly.

The music, background score, action sequences added to make the movie a refined and refreshing experience for non-ardent mani ratnam movie lovers like me.

The message in the movie was clear enough and left a warm optimistic feel.

by rajesh khajuria on Jun 04, 2004 04:41 PM

hai to the makers of yuva
i am rajesh
i wanted to tell you that people love to watch the movies which are based on perfect disciplines and include nice dress up
as abhishek bachan was having beard on his mouth he was not looking impressive. along with that if the advertisement of a movie contains some contests than it attracts the people towards the movie
sorry for these comments but its true BYE-BYE

whats this crap about hindi films not having quality
by savita on Jun 04, 2004 01:27 AM

If a movie is bad and rejected by the audience and YUVA is, the people involved with making the movie have to take the responsibility. MANI RATNAM is no god. he is out there to make money like all others.
ROJA & BOMBAY were the only 2 good movies that he made in Hindi. dil se was crap and so is yuva.
And why are all people praising only south indian actors & directors? Why is kamal hassan working in a remake of munnabhai m.b.b.s? lack of creativity?? you would think. so go take a hike.

Yuva's like a trailer...
by Shrabonti on Jun 04, 2004 12:15 AM

... where you get to see some things you like, would like to see more, but the moment your interest is aroused, you are whisked away to watch something else.Something you may not want to watch at all, such as phoney politics. This is trivialisation of an important issue -- the youth's involvement or non-involvement with politics. Secondly, Abhishek's character is developed to a certain point and then he is made to be completely incidental to the plot, Ajay Devgan even says so at the end of their endless and useless fight. Thirdly, Mani Ratnam should stick to making intimate films about relationships -- i have to concede that he handles all three love relationships in the film brilliantly -- and leave making movies with larger issues and social messages as the theme to someonewho understands them better. And doesn't belittle them in the process.

Why people didn't like Yuva
by yoggs on Jun 02, 2004 10:29 PM

I think following are the reasons why most people did not like Yuva
1: Where is the mandatory "item number"???
2: What's up with the three guys? It would have been much better if they were long lost brothers, wouldnt it?
3: No extra marital affairs?
4: No hot scene at all?? No "bold scenes" either !!!
5: Where is the spitting professor (MHN)???
6: Where is the ronaa dhonaa??
7: And shouldn't Lallan's character taken a 280 degrees turn? Or is it 180?

There are still many more reasons. If these were incorporated, it should've been a huge hit !! But Mani Sir, I'm glad you did not do anything of that sort. I just loved the film the way you made it. It rocks !!!! Well I do like watching hot steamy scenes, but I would prefer to watch them in other "murderous" movies !!!

AJ
Best movie ever !
by AJ on Jun 02, 2004 12:10 AM

Hello Mr. Maniratnam,

I'm a Tamil guy doing my MBA here in San Jose, California. I happened
to watch your YUVA / AE movies, both movies twice each so far. I just
wanted to congratulate you for making the best Indian movie up to date. I
took all my American and Indian friends for the movie, and they all
loved it. I mean, they all said that this was not like any other Indian
movie, which just has some love story with songs in it. I am a big fan of
action movies, and if it's action for a cause and effect, what more can
I expect ...

Your movie had a great theme, beautiful screenplay (establishment of
the three characters, the aftermath, and the climax), mind-blowing music
and BGM, excellent acting performances, and above all, the best
direction. I aspired to become an actor when I was growing up in Madras, but
then I had to do the mainstream stuff, like Engineering and coming to
the US for Masters. But now, after seeing this movie, I feel like getting
back to India, if that means to act only in your movies as the leading
guy .....

Please keep making these classics and make us all proud of our Indian
movie industry !! Hats off to you SIR ...

yuva
by soumik on Jun 01, 2004 02:09 PM

I am surprised how people become blind followers of a film maker being oblivious to his faults ,that explains how filmstars don the mantle of th CMs chair is many states .I am definitely seeing Yuva ,but I am seeing it as an entertainment for 3 hours ,if it is good it is,if bad it is .Mani was good in Anjali but that does not make him good always ,he was definitely poor in Dil Se despite the tantrums thrown by some ,he is definitely not a class.
