what are actors good for?
by pm on Mar 18, 2004 08:36 PM

What are actors good for? Obviously acting! And that is what they are doing when they are campaigning for political parties. Its a shame for both the political party and the actor/actress. But the actors need to realise that they are responsible for their behavior mostly because of their star status.

Also, we citizens should be more careful when we vote. After all, the power is with us. Let them shout themselves hoarse, but we'll just ignore them and vote for somebody more worthwhile than them.

corrupt
by GB on Mar 17, 2004 12:21 PM

Corruption has been endorsed by the NDA, BJP. They are using the money they got from Tehelka scam, Defence scam, Petrol Pump scam, Coffin scam, Rudy scam, Judeo scam, UTI scam and hundreds of other scams for these actors. Party with a difference. The difference is that they consider bribe-taking and scams as legit policy.

shame on actors
by Ranjan on Mar 14, 2004 11:45 AM

It is really shameful for any indian to learn that his/her matinee idols who are unquestionably more pampered, to take money for campaigning for political parties. What hurts more are other actors defend this trait.

Actors for rent?
by Nitin on Mar 14, 2004 08:19 AM

Where are people's priorities? Are actors forgetting that they are
citizens too? If they are canvasing for someone else, do they even
care what they are endorsing? Or is it all just for "securing their
future"? .....Why do things the straight way when you can make a
political circus out of it?

new businesses called campaigning & crowds mobilising
by Geeta on Mar 13, 2004 03:39 PM

In India politics is not only totally criminalised but also totally commercialised. What else we the people of India can expect from our fourth class netas? Politics in India today has become the most lucrative business on the planet. Total self awarded immunity from income tax, wealth tax, police and what not? 99 out of 100 people who attend political rallies in India today are hired. India needs freedom immediately from it's hard core criminal netas and absolutely corrupt bureaucrats.

No wrong but they can openly acknowledge it
by kiranmayi on Mar 13, 2004 11:54 AM

yes. There is no wrong in taking money to campaign and they have right. But what is the problem and why did they feel ashmed when this type of reports came in? They should also have given statements that they have been paid and they are campaigning to the extent they paid, instead of calling for media and giving statements as if they were doing social service.

by Dr.P.Sudevan on Mar 13, 2004 11:28 AM

Dear Sir,
There is no harm if the stars receiving their remuneration. But those who pay and those who receive should make sure that IT is deducted at source and what ever tax is due later should be paid by the recepient. Let it be fair and suare!
