Over the years, Indian cinema has consistently found ways to mutilate the realism of the legal system - cops, lawyers, courtrooms, the law...imagine the appeal process if some of our screen judges were to actually interpret the law based on social rhetoric spouted so eloquently by actors playing lawyers, righteously indignant accused and wronged policemen who can't bear to see the bad guy get away.
It's only recently that journalists have even been given a decent role in cinema. Until then, most of our crusaders have been cops, lawyers or the common man greviously wronged. But then again, how dare we expect realism from an industry that deems it appropriate to introduce a song-and-dance routine into the movie regardless of whether it fits or not.
What point is Sukanya trying to make. Are the films a wrong barometer of the society or she is the perfect protogonist of all that is not well. while films were never meant to be an exact barometer of the society by any of their makers, we do expect better understanding of basic reality from even the most brazen self proclaimed critic.
I do agree with you Ms.Sukanya Verma regarding the misrepresentation of journalism in commercial movies. But which part of the society do they depict accurately.
Movies are probably a shift from reality for many people - to forget the concerns of real life for sometime and live in a fantasy world (with a guise of reality?). Who would want to go, pay, and see the pains of real life depicted (again!) in a movie. This is true basically for the audience of masala movies. However, there is audience who like to see the reality and understand it deeply. Art movies serve this purpose. Hence they are 'boring' for the masses -- the section of society who usually see enough problems in their real lives than they are equipped to handle.
Bringing up the subtle concerns of real life to the surface probably requires a very good director. Otherwise demanding the audience's attention would require such gross acts like dancing, disguising, etc..
Sir, There should also be a film made on the colourful world of journalism, how news paper editors continue to reflect their owners' ideas while seeming to be on the side of truth! how they survey to find out their customer base, and colour the news so as not to alienate that customer base! criteria behind choosing the headlines, and the criteria behind lay out of news in every paper being different! why News Paper prices vary every day, and what is the criteria behind pricing mechanism! how they cultivate friends in high places! how they manage to get details of classified files in government departments(investigative journalism)!how finance journalists plant stories to affect share prices! how news-papers are able sell below cost price(cost of paper and printing itself being nearly 6 rupees per paper per day while it sells at Rs.2)! How is it that each and every day news neatly fills up the same number of pages in the paper! what is the criteria behind choosing which Letters from Readers to publish and which ones to leave out!how sex column question and answers-both are from the columnist her/himself!and private lives of News-Personnel? all of them can not be angels!
HI,Preity iwuld rather like 2 call u Preety cause i m a greate fan of urs n i think that u r the most beatiful&prietiest women i adore the most&i wuld also like 2 comment on ur experince regarding this film is that in actual life each n every person is going through such problem but every one is helpless, nobody is concerned about the countries future, everybody is self esteemed.BUT will come a time everyone will realise the means of sacrifice that ur ancestors&fore citizens have given 2 breatue the air of freedom.
The issue is not just the journalism. We have this hypocrisy in every field and in our whole life. It is "almost" our culture. How can journalism profession remain untouched by it?
another bad article from Ms. Verma. Shashi Kapoor never acted in New Delhi Times, it was Jeetendra who essayed the lead role. Does anyone at rediff even edit her articles before they are posted? There is always a mistake her work and never a point.. just endless blabber. It is really disappointing.
