Why does Bollywood have such an obsession with STARS and HITS? Why are hits attributed to STARS?

"To this day, I think the most important thing for every actor is to give a hit."

No! Come on, people! Acting is all about giving excellent, powerful, performances. It is NOT about giving hits and flops! Why is Bollywood so stupid as to believe that mere ACTORS can determine hits and flops? Didn't Tom Cruise's THE LAST SAMURAI flop in America? Didn't Tom Hank's movie also flop? Didn't Robert de Niro's GODSEND flop as well? Bollywood is SO STUPID to believe that actors can actually make terrible films flop. Almost every "star" in Hollywood is a "paper star" - he gets written about in magazines and newspapers but doesn't guarantee hits of any sort. B'wood's the same. Movies become hits in America because they tell good stories that people find interesting or can relate to.

Also, good movies MAKE STARS. STARS do NOT make good movies. Was Sanjay Dutt as popular as he is today before Munnabhai MBBS? Because of that movie, he became EXTREMELY POPULAR. HE did not make the movie a hit amongst the people. The movie made HIM one.

GROW UP BOLLYWOOD! Get over your obsession with hits and stars. Movies will make money if they are well-told! STARS make absolutely no difference at all.
