This is overall a very nice article. But it would have done very well to include some more films like Salman's Pyar kiya to darna kya, Shah Rukh Khan's Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani... Shah Rukh Khan will definitely win the Best Comedian award hands-down, if he cares to do many more comedies. Remember Baadshah?
Sukanya, I will liek to thank you to let me know the various comedy movies in indian cinema. I have the VCD's of most of them. it is better to have such VCD's rather than emotional sentimental ( 10% senti & 90% mental ) movies which make you more worried in life.
did you mention the movie Angoor in your column ?? I guess not !! it is one hell of a comic movie !! it has sanjeev kumar & deven verma both in double roles.. also did you mention peecha karo ? that is also a good one..
I will say the need of the hour is good comedy movies. of the recent times i will say hera pheri & hungama are real cool movies.they give so much relief to our allready tensed lives.
Awara Pagal Diwana is far limit to comedy. Which makes you stomach pain after keeping you laugh throught the film. Paresh Rawala is just best as in other films
Sukanya,I agree.Well written. Most of the movies mentioned r my favorites.I'd like to add 1 more 2 ur list:Mr India. No actress of the 80s and 90's could match the unparalleled laughter creating ability of Sridevi.Similarly Juhi Chawla is very talented among actresses who create humor without falling flat on their face. They r 1 of the few actresses whose talent 2 create humor has remain untapped all along. In this day n age of xtreme pressures we need lots of humor 2 avoid getting into depression. As they say "laughter is the best medicine".Unfortunately our TV media fails 2 realise that this is the time 2 bring in more sensible humor instead of irritating slapstick jokes.High time they realised tht playing around with emotions n relationships isnt going 2 get them anywhere. Infact some of us find the saas bahu themes purely unbearable. If we are 2 draw a parallel to what u said, then some of the best of TV comedies that i can think about are'Yeh jo hai zindagi(in the good old dd days). Also'dekh bhai dekh'n zabaan sambhalke did a decent job.More recently i feel that"Khichdi"is gr8.Manages 2 be hilarious with subtle dialogues n without loud gestures. It should replace the saasbhau dailies!

Hey mamta, Well written i do agree with ur write up that v need more sensible humour n laughter in this high pressure modern life which takes a toll @ the end of the day. Nethin 2 make u smile n laugh is reqd 2 get of the work monotone. Lookn fwd 2 some more write ups of urs in the near future. I wonder @ times u shud seriously hv thght abt being a journalist n magazine writer. THUMBS UP !!! Bye now....
This CANNOT pass for a column! Please do something about the people you pass off as columnists. The humor is weak. The prose is incipid at best. You need more substantial pieces in your entertainment section!
It was another classic that had a mix of comedy and a wonderfully funny element of suspense too. Rich man Utpal Dutt wants to find a "poor man" as a groom for Zeenat Aman because he thinks poor=simple=chaste=good. What follows is a laugh riot!
You had omitted Johny Walker and his purposeful and decent comedy scenes - Naya Daur, Aaar Paar, Madhumati and other films. You had also omitted Rajendra Nath - Can anyone forget his comedy scenes in Jab Pyar Kisi se hota hai? and his comic scenes with a serious purpose in Tere Ghar Ke Samne. Very decent comedians indeed.
hey nice article but how can u forget the best hindi comedy-the paresh rawal, akshay kumar, tabu, sunil sheety starrer HERA PHERI the comedy in that film is awesome just looking at paresh rawal makes u laff!!!
